Purfling is a thin, double strip of wood that is inlaid into the edge of the top and back of the instrument. This may appear to be ornamental but, in fact, it serves two purposes. Structurally, purfling acts as reinforcement for the edges of the instrument preventing any severe damage from occurring at the upper and lower plates, should the edge suffer a blow. Acoustically, the groove that is cut into the plates acts as an interruption to the vibrations that are traveling through the wood.

A lever used on a wheel hub, and sometimes a seatpost, that replaces the locknut for easy, no-tool removal or adjustment.

This system is most commonly found at the wheels hubs, replacing axle nuts for fastening the front or back wheels to the front or rear dropouts and allowing rapid removal and replacement of the wheel in case of a flat tire without the need for tools, by turning the lever through 180°. The system is also found at the top of the seat tube for clamping the seatpost into the seat tube and allowing the rider to raise and lower the seat while mounted. The levered quick release system may also be present at the front and rear brakes, this time as an adjustment lever that causes the caliper arms to spread, thereby allowing the wheel to be removed without deflating the tires.

Assystem City Car... is remarkably easy to park, and not only because of its compact dimensions(3. 60 m long, 1. 60 m wide and 1. 60 m tall), or its light weight(only 600 kg), but also because it has three axles, a central one, with two wheels, and one wheel in each extreme of the car(front and end). These single wheel axles are the ones responsible for moving and turning the Assystem City Car. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination.

Fixers can be reused for a certain number of rolls of film. As the fixer gets old with use, the fixing time will need to be increased accordingly. These times will depend on the fixer and the type of film. With most traditional films, you can tell if the film is under-fixed when the film base is cloudy instead of clear. Over-fixing, however, can cause staining. Pour the fixer back into its bottle and wash the film with the top of the film container off under running water for one minute.

Internal frames are usually parallel aluminium staves in channels on the back of the pack. These are thinner and more flexible than frame staves found on external frames, and are usually either independent or only attached to one another at the top, so they flex and move with the wearer far more than is generally the case with external frames. This leads to greater freedom of movement, and also means that the pack body is closer in to the wearer's back, enabling the centre of mass to be held closer to the wearer's own. This isn’t as comfortable standing around as a high load, but it's a lot easier to balance it, especially off the trail in rougher stuff.

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber.

Bench Method. Whichever hauling equipment or technique you choose, you must get as close as possible to the trunks to be loaded or bring them as close as possible to the trail to facilitate loading. The bench method can enable you, with reasonable effort, to bring the felled trees manually to within a 10-metre radius of the track. This method consists in creating a workbench from the felled trees themselves. It enables you to work with your back straight and to move the trunks without unreasonable effort. The first tree is felled and prepared so as to act as a support for other trees that will be felled on top of it. It must be quite steady, since the impact and weight of felled trees can crush the support and make it less useful.

The machine is trammed forward into position then, while the main chassis of the machine remains stationary, the cutting head moves forward, sumping into the coal at the bottom of the face. The rotation of the chains carries the broken coal back over the head and deposits it on to the chain conveyor which then moves the coal to the rear end of the machine. When the sumping operation is complete, the head travels upwards towards the top of the seam, breaking out the coal as it moves. As soon as the cycle is complete the head is withdrawn and swung to the side in order to make another cut.

Heat-bond iron with holder and shield. For both back and face seaming. Contoured top allows easy movement under the cut edges of the carpet when face seaming and preheats the carpet back for better adhesive penetration. Adjustable thermostatic heat control, indicator light, 3 metre 3-wire cord and cast-in element for long life. Shield reduces amount of heat to protect face yarns and carpet backing. The iron may be ordered with either a flat or grooved base.

Thermostat réglable, voyant lumineux et cordon de 3 mètres à 3 conducteurs y compris élément chauffant encastré durable. L'écran thermique réduit la chaleur et protège les deux côtés du tapis. Le fer peut être commandé au choix avec semelle lisse ou striée.
