Optic nerve sheath fenestration is an operation which is performed to reduce the swelling in the optic nerves in order to protect the eyesight. It involves a surgeon making a small window in the tough coating surrounding the optic nerve, called optic nerve sheath. This allows the fluid around the nerve to be released. The excess fluid escapes and harmlessly absorbs into surrounding tissues. This reduces the swelling in the optic nerve on the side that the procedure is performed.

The bleed induces heat transfer by advection..., which improves significantly the thermal efficiency of the SCW.

Gastric inhibitory polypeptide(GIP), also called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide, is a 42-amino-acid peptide secreted by mucosal K cells, predominantly found in the duodenum and jejunum and to a lesser extent in the ileum and colon. GIP is released into the circulation following a mixed meal and also ingestion of glucose, fat, or amino acids. Fat ingestion appears to be a more potent stimulator of GIP secretion than carbohydrate in humans.

The fibre separation processes of bast fibre consist of breaking, scutching and heckling operations. With mechanical separation, in a process called breaking, the woody core is crushed and breaks into short pieces(called hurds) and some of it is separated from the bast fibre. Breaking may be done manually with a wooden hammer or by passing the stalks between fluted rollers.

La chromatographie de partage [...] a d'abord été utilisée pour la séparation des aminoacides [...] et a été depuis appliquée à des problèmes de séparation de différentes substances. La séparation est effectuée dans un nombre immense d'étapes de partage isolées, chacune de dimension microscopique dans une colonne (10 à 100 cm de longueur) remplie de grains d'une substance hydratée, insoluble et inerte, comme l'amidon ou le gel de silice. Les grains d'amidon ou de gel de silice sont hydrophiles et sont entourés par une phase d'eau finement liée, qui sert de phase stationnaire aqueuse à travers laquelle passe un flux de solvant non miscible qui traverse la colonne par gravité. Chaque grain d'amidon agit ainsi comme un séparateur microscopique.
