Tidal gravitational fields lead to differential deflection of light bundles. The size and shape of their cross sections are therefore changed. Since photons are neither emitted nor absorbed in the process of gravitational light deflection, the surface brightness of lensed sources remains unchanged. Changing the size of the cross section of a light bundle therefore changes the flux observed from a source. The different images in multiple-image systems generally have different fluxes. The images of extended sources, i. e. sources which can observationally be resolved, are deformed by the gravitational tidal field.

Phyllodes tumor. Previously known as "cystosarcoma phyllodes", this neoplasm is a bulky, fibroma-like tumor(i, e,, made up of proliferative ducts and stroma) having on cross section numerous clefts and slits creating leaflike [phyllodes] patterns of intervening tumor. Phyllodes tumors can be very large, causing breast distortion and pressure necrosis of overlying skin. These lesions can be either malignant(uncommon) or benign(common). Changes suggesting malignant potential include increased cellularity, anaplasia, high mitotic activity, and overgrowth of the stromal component.

The term cystosarcoma phyllodes is a poor one, as both benign and malignant variants of the lesion occur, but it is well established in the medical literature.

Tumeur phyllode. Cette lésion, aussi appelée fibro-adénome géant ou cystadénofibrome phyllode, constitue une entité anatomoclinique qu'il faut distinguer des tumeurs bénignes fibroépithéliales. Appelées à tort cystosarcomes phyllodes dans la littérature anglo-saxonne, elles correspondent à des fibro-adénomes dans lesquels la composante conjonctive a pris le pas sur la composante épithéliale. Leur architecture arborescente est à l'origine de leur nom.

A convertible buccal tube is an appliance used by orthodontists during an early phase of treatment to correct malpositioned teeth. The tube is essentially an orthodontic bracket in which the buccal or cheek-facing side of the usual arch-wire slot is closed by a plate to form a tubular opening of typically rectangular cross section. The plate is brazed or spot-welded in place, and can be removed to convert the buccal tube to a conventional bracket during later stages of treatment.
