The flagship urban-development project of the NCC in the last several decades has been Confederation Boulevard-the Capital' s ceremonial and discovery route. In collaboration with federal and municipal partners, the NCC designed and constructed this 7. 5-kilometre route around the heart of Canada's Capital Region. Aside from providing an elegant streetscape for some of the most important sites and institutions of the nation, the Boulevard is a focus for year-round national celebrations, events and interpretation programs that help people to discover important aspects of Canada's government, culture, heritage, landscape and relations with other nations of the world. The idea for a ceremonial route in the heart of the Capital goes back to the 19th century. However, it was not until 1967-centennial year-that planners began to talk about a ceremonial route for processions and state visits, as a unifying element in the core areas of Ottawa, Ontario, and Hull(now Gatineau), Quebec, and as a vehicle for communicating the Capital of Canadians. Planning began in 1982 and construction in 1985. The central part of Confederation Boulevard was officially opened by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien on June 30, 2000. The last phase of three-phase construction will be completed in 2006.

L'idée d'un parcours d'honneur au cœur de la capitale remonte au XIXe siècle. Ce n'est toutefois pas avant 1967, année du centenaire de la Confédération, que les urbanistes ont commencé à parler d'un parcours d'honneur qui accueillerait des défilés et des visites officielles, qui servirait de lien unissant les centres-villes d'Ottawa et de Hull (maintenant Gatineau) et qui ferait connaître la capitale à la population canadienne. Paragliders have no rigid structure and are kept in shape by the internal pressure of air, with the pilot suspended by lines beneath. The pilot is clipped into a harness and oriented in a sitting position for maximum comfort. After laying out the wing and lines, launching is simply a matter of moving down the slope a few steps to tension the lines and allow the wind to inflate the wing and raise it above you. A short run forward to pick up airspeed and you’re airborne!

Paraglider pilots launch from gentle hillsides with their gliders already opened for flight; if the glider isn’t flying properly, the launch can be aborted before leaving the ground. Paragliding launches are not as "committing"; if you want to stop your launch, you just stop running and the canopy floats down behind you. The pilot runs down a gentle slope and glides away from the mountain.

The take-off, contrary to popular belief, does not involve a leap off a cliff, all you have to do is run a few steps to be airborne.

Le décollage s'effectue en général dans une pente. Le parapentiste place son aile à terre, bien étalée (en forme de corolle) et face à la pente. Il s'installe dans sa sellette en veillant bien à respecter les vérifications d'usage (points d'accrochages de la sellette, casque, radio et pas de nœuds dans les suspentes). Il faut qu'il y ait une légère brise qui remonte la pente face à lui pour lui faciliter le décollage et que les conditions météorologiques soient adaptées.

A floating flame is an indication that there is a lack of secondary air to the flame. In severe cases, the flame will leave the burner and have the appearance of a floating cloud. When a flame raises off the burner it is important to determine if it is a "lifting flame" or a "floating flame": "Lifting Flames" rise from the ports to burn some distance above the ports. In some cases these flames will drop back to the port and lift again intermittently. They are caused by too much primary air. Decreasing the shutter opening will stop lifting flames. "Floating Flames" are long and lazy looking, poorly defined, quiet flames which roll around the combustion chamber sometimes completely off the ports. Floating flames result from too little secondary or "make up" air. Lack of secondary air can be caused by incorrect venting, clogged flueways, blocked secondary air inlet openings, or lack of natural room makeup air to the oven.

In those cases where facet joint injection has temporarily relieved the symptoms and they have been incompletely alleviated by cryogenic rhizotomy, then endoscopic visualisation can be used to identify the nerves and especially the anterior nerves. These can be divided by laser sidefire probes and Holmium ablation. The joints can be opened and the rough surfaces can be sculptured again using Holmium sidefiring laser probes.
