FOPO is an anticipatory mechanism that involves psychological, physiological, and physical activation to avoid rejection. It is also characterized by a hypervigilant social readiness and a relentless scanning of the environment in search of approval. In overvaluing what others might be thinking, we become highly attuned to signals—body language, microexpressions, words, silence, actions, and inactions—of potential rejection. FOPO is an exhaustive attempt to interpret what others are thinking in an effort to preempt a negative evaluation by them. It is not the actual negative opinion that is so problematic—it's the fear of it. Though FOPO does not meet the criteria for clinical diagnosis, it creates significant distress.

The minutes of a meeting are a record of the circumstances of the meeting, including the names of the participants, the topics discussed and the decisions reached. The minutes should include all essential information in as concise a form as possible. Special attention should be paid to the wording of resolutions, motions and other decisions, particularly if there is a chance that there will be differences of opinion on what was resolved, moved or decided. If it is a formal meeting, all motions must be written out verbatim.

In Canada, there is a distinction made between "aid to the civil power" and "assistance to civil authorities." The former expression refers to military aid provided to the provincial police forces to restore and maintain law and order. The latter encompasses all other forms of assistance the military gives to the civil community. Examples include search and rescue operations, counter-terrorism response, emergencies (natural and man-induced), fisheries and border protection, humanitarian assistance, counter-drug operations, arms smuggling, illegal immigrants, environmental surveillance and special events.

The expression "aid of the civil power" is used in some texts because it appears in the National Defence Act. Even after the 1985 revision of the Act, the use of the preposition "of" continues to be used, even though the more appropriate expression is "aid to the civil power."

Section 71 of the Canadian Forces Members and Veterans Re-establishment and Compensation Act provides that the types of operations for purposes of paragraph (a) above are: (a) an armed conflict; (b) an operation authorized under the Charter of the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty, the North American Aerospace Defence Command Agreement or any other similar treaty instrument; (c) an international or a multinational military operation; (d) an operation authorized to deal with a national emergency, as that term is defined in section 3 of the Emergencies Act, in respect of which a declaration of emergency is made under that Act; (e) an operation authorized under section 273.6 or Part VI of the National Defence Act, or other similar operation authorized by the Governor in Council; (f) an operation that, in the opinion of the Minister of National Defence, is a search and rescue operation; (g) an operation that, in the opinion of the Minister of National Defence, is a disaster relief operation; (h) an operation that, in the opinion of the Minister of National Defence, is a counterterrorism operation; and (i) an operation involving a level of risk that, in the opinion of the Minister of National Defence, is comparable to that normally associated with an operation referred to in paragraphs (a) to (e).

A comment is a statement of opinion on facts.

Not only statements of intention, but also statements of opinion, know to be false, may be actionable as deceit, because "the existence of the opinion in the person stating it is a question of fact. It is true that, where the facts are equally well known to both parties, a false opinion expressed thereon by one does not give a cause for complaint to the other. The real explanation for this, however, is not that a statement of opinion is not a statement of fact about the condition of one's mind, but that the parties, bargaining at arm's length, are assumed to be competent to draw their own conclusions.

Natural Entrance Points : These are the points at which the coastline can most reasonably be said to turn inward to form an indentation or bay. In the history of the law of bays and its codification, this is a new term. It appears to be about as accurately expressive of the natural conditions envisioned for a juridical bays as any that can be devised. Although never appearing in the Drafts of the United Nations International Law Commission on the law of the sea, it was used in the opinion of the Court in United Kingdom v. Norway. Other and older terms which have been used are mouth of the bay, headlands, or inter fauces terrae(sometimes called inter fauces terrarum).
