Kyphoplasty is a newer treatment for patients immobilized by the painful vertebral body compression fractures associated with osteoporosis. Like vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can alleviate up to 90% of the pain caused by compression fractures. In addition to relieving pain, kyphoplasty can also stabilize the fracture, restore height, and reduce deformity.... Kyphoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia. Using image guidance x-rays, two small incisions are made and a probe is placed into the vertebral space where the fracture is located. The bone is drilled and a balloon, called a bone tamp, is inserted on each side. These balloons are then inflated with contrast medium(to be seen using image guidance x-rays) until they expand to the desired height and removed. The balloon does not remain in the patient. It simply creates a cavity for the cement and also helps expand the compressed bone. The spaces created by the balloons are then filled with PMMA [poly(methyl methacrylate) ], the same orthopaedic cement used in vertebroplasty, binding the fracture. The cement hardens quickly, providing strength and stability to the vertebra, restoring height, and relieving pain.

Eppley Precision Spectral Pyranometer, PSP. This instrument is considered to be the most accurate radiometer produced commercially for the measurement of global sun and sky radiation, totally or in defined wavelength bands. It can be inverted to measure reflected shortwave radiation(from which the albedo can be calculated). The PSP has a circular multi-junction thermopile of the plated(copper-constantan) wire wound type which is temperature compensated in order to get a response that is independent of ambient temperature. The temperature sensed by the detector is nearly linear with the flux density of incident radiation. The instrument is supplied with a pair of removable precision ground and polished concentric hemispheres of Schott optical glass. The inner hemisphere is transparent to a wavelength of 0. 285-2. 800 µm. The outer dome can be replaced by Schott glass hemispherical filters which transmit within specified bandwidths. Desiccant is placed in the sideof the instrument to absorb humidity inside the glass domes. Measurements are reported in Wm-2.

The motion detection radar(MDR) adds a new dimension to surveillance. The MDR can be effective even through wooden doors and concrete walls. It requires very little setup and does not have any external wires connected to it. Unlike TV cameras and IR sensors that must be concealed, the MDR can be placed in a "safe location" on the other sideof a wall or hidden in a container with non-metallic walls. The MDR provides an effective and timely alert even if the person doing the surveillance is preoccupied, distracted or inadvertently nods off due to fatigue.

The animals are now taken to the killing pen. Hogs are put in the stock pen, where they are first stunned and then bled. Cattle are placed in the killing stall, one sideof which opens outward so that the carcass will lie on a sort of table as soon as the animal is killed. Heat lamps often are used to keep pigs warm, but extreme caution must be used to prevent a fire. Bedding and floor pads work well. Hovers can be used to conserve heat in a smaller area. A hover is a boxlike structure that captures heat and reduces drafts. This simple box can be placed in a farrowing crate or nursery pen. One sideof the hover is open so that young pigs can get inside.

DIDO Experiment Container is essentially a box with a sidelength of 150 mm. Design philosophy of DIDO experiment foreseen an "all inside" approach, so(at this moment) the experiment container is a mere box with no windows or openings, or relevant external features. DIDO EC is intended as a structural part for the inside experiment; only mechanical, electrical and data interfaces are required to connect DIDO EC with GLAD facility. The box is assembled as one piece but the topside is removable to have access to DIDO experiment. In this way the topside component works as a cover plate. The EC is made by(TBD) material and to meet safety requirements EC' s corners are slightly rounded, materials must not be flammable and machined with non-toxic surface treatment. Cover plate is connected with the box through screws. The bottom side, instead, compose the "first plate" of DIDO experiment, housing tanks and pumping system. Another plate placed about half height provides a "second plate" for DIDO cell and relative optics, laser unit and CCD camera.

Objectives of the experiment DIDO ... is the measurement of diffusion coefficients in a three-component solution. It’s impossible to carry out these measurements on Earth because in a diffusion boundary, when the transport is promoted by at least two independent driving forces, convention instabilities may arise, called "fingers" and "overstability."

The ElectroPhoretic Image Display (EPID) is a non-emissive display concept based on the transport of charged pigment particles in a colloidal suspension. The charged pigment particles are transported by means of an applied electric field. This phenomenon is commonly known as electrophoresis.

In an arm chair the fox edging would only be used across the front. On an end unit of a sectional sofa the edging would go across the front and around the open side. The purpose of the edging is to protect the covering from a sharp bend over the edge wire and cushion it.

The sloping of the slope stakes outward allows the eqpt to work to the stake without removing it, indicates the direction of the centerline of the road, and enables the eqpt operators to read the stakes more easily. Slope stakes are placed at 30 M intervals on tangents and at 20 M intervals on horizontal or vertical curves. Wherever a sharp break in the original ground profile occurs, it should also be staked.
