An Advisory Committee on Assistive Devices has been formed to provide the Minister of Industry, with advice on how to support the advancement of assistive technologies in Canada. The Committee's first meeting was held in Ottawa, October 31-November 1. This committee(ACAD) meets three times each year to provide input to the Minister of Industry on issues dealing with the assistive technology industry. It also provides input on the departmental planning process to ensure that the needs of people with disabilities are taken into account. For example, it was on the recommendation of the ACAD that the Information Highways Applications Branch included accessibility as a criteria in the applications process for the Community Access Program. Un Comité consultatif des appareils et accessoires fonctionnels a été formé afin de conseiller le ministre de l'Industrie, sur la façon de soutenir l'avancement des technologies fonctionnelles au Canada. La première réunion du Comité au eu lieu à Ottawa les 31 octobre et 1er novembre 1996. Ce comité (CCAAF) se rencontre trois fois par année pour fournir au ministre d'Industrie une opinion sur les questions touchant l'industrie des appareils et accessoires fonctionnels. Il fournit également de l'information lors du processus de planification du ministère afin de s'assurer que l'on tienne compte des besoins des personnes handicapées. Par exemple, c'est suite à la recommandation du CCAAF que le Programme d'accès communautaire (PAC) comprend des critères d'accessibilité dans le processus d'application. The removable floating cover consists of an inner and outer ring which are made of fibre reinforced plastic. The outer ring is attached to the foot bridge and is separated from the inner ring by a scumboard. The inner chamber served as a grease collector and is fabricated so that it can be easily removed to aid grease collection.
