High tunnels are not conventional greenhouses. But like plastic-covered greenhouses, they are generally quonset-shaped, constructed of metal bows that are attached to metal posts which have been driven into the ground about two feet deep. They are covered with one layer of 6-mil greenhouse-grade polyethylene, and are ventilated by manually rolling up the sides each morning and rolling them down in early evening. There is no permanent heating system although it is advisable to have a standby portable propane unit to protect against unexpected below-freezing temperatures. There are no electrical connections. The only external connection is a water supply for trickle irrigation. The ends of the tunnels are framed in, and may be made portable(removable) to facilitate easy access into the tunnel with a small tractor and tiller.

Because the O2 sensor must be pre-heated to function, many newer units contain a little 12 volt heater that brings it up to temperature sooner, offering better fuel economy and driveability earlier. These sensors can be identified by the number of wires coming out of the unit. Just one wire means you don’t have a heater. Those that have three wires use one for the signal, and two for the heater circuit. Those that have four wires use one for the signal, one for the signal' s ground, and two for the heater. In this case usually the signal wire is shielded against interference, much like common television coaxial cable.

Most engines with a turbo use sensors with heaters because the turbo steals so much of the superheat energy as it uses it to pump additional air in the intake. Without the heater, the sensor should not get hot enough to give good readings, especially when the turbo is being used. The Suzuki 1.0 liter engines unfortunately do not employ a lambda sensor with a heater.

Pour compléter la sonde, on peut ajouter un élément chauffant central en céramique PTC de manière à assurer une mise à température de fonctionnement plus rapide (20 à 30 secondes). Gyroscopes can be used as devices for direction finding, guidance, and control. If a gyroscope, mounted on its gimbal rings, is set spinning about a horizontal axis, and the outer gimbal ring is rotated in a horizontal plane, then the inner gimbal ring, carrying the flywheel, tilts up out of the horizontal plane in which it, too first lay. After a few oscillations, damped out by friction, the axis of spin of the gyroscope settles down along a vertical direction. Inertial guidance systems make use of very similar phenomena. Once a gyroscope has been set spinning about a chosen axis, any motion that would cause it to deviate from this direction calls into existence a torque that can be used as an error signal to control corrective maneuvers... Some of the most important applications of gyroscopic phenomena are in aircraft instruments. A free(perfectly balanced) gyroscope can give a constant indication of a chosen reference direction for checking the correct course, and a gravitationally loaded gyroscope can be used to identify the true vertical at all times and so define an artificial horizon against which the pilot can measure the angles of bank and climb.

An abrasive jet uses water that is pressurized up to 40, 000 pounds per square inch(psi) and then forced through a small sapphire orifice at 2500 feet per second, or about two and a half times the speed of sound. Garnet abrasive is then pulled into this high-speed stream of water and mixed with the water in a long ceramic mixing tube. A stream of abrasive laden water moving at 1000 feet per second exits the ceramic tube. This jet of water and abrasive is then directed at the material to be machined. The jet drags the abrasive through the material in a curved path and the resulting centrifugal forces on the particles press them against the work piece. The cutting action is a grinding process where the forces and motions are provided by water, rather than a grinding wheel.

During a turn the nose of the aircraft is continually pitching up. Your pitch gyro will see this and attempt to stop it. This results in the nose dropping, and a decrease in altitude. Your pressure sensor will sense this loss of altitude and attempt to correct it. So, effectively, the gyro and pressure sensor will be working against each other(slightly) and the end result is that your plane will not hold the desired altitude, but one slightly lower than the desired altitude. This is especially true in the early portions of the turn.

Only equipment light enough for the miner to handle alone may be used. The air-leg and rock drill, with a combined weight of 45 kg, is the usual tool for drilling the shrinkage stope. Standing on the top of the muckpile, the miner picks up the drill/feed, anchors the leg, braces the rock drill/drill steel against the roof and starts drilling.

Replacing a tap washer. Given that up to 50% of an electricity bill may be attributable to water heating, it is important to ensure that your hot water taps don’t drip... A leaky tap usually occurs because the internal seal is worn out. Each time you turn the tap off, the soft flexible washer, which is made from rubber or a synthetic substitute, presses against the metal washer seat, wearing a tiny part of itself away. Eventually it becomes thin and irregular in shape. This allows water to seep past and creates the annoying drip. If you don’t replace it but continue to screw the tap down tighter and tighter, eventually you will get metal forcing you to call in a plumber to regrid the washer seating. That can be an expensive business!

"Dry boring" methods employ the use of a temporary casing to seal the pile bore through water-bearing or unstable strata overlying suitable stable material. Upon reaching the design depth a reinforcing cage is introduced, concrete is placed in the bore and bought up to the required level. The casing is then withdrawn. "Wet" boring also employs a temporary casing through unstable ground and is used when the pile bore cannot be sealed against water ingress. Boring is then undertaken using a digging bucket to drill through the underlying soils to design depth. The reinforcing cage is lowered into the bore and concrete is placed by tremmie pipe, following which extraction of the temporary casing takes place.
