In many cartographic establishments the whole of the work of the plotting and drawing stages of constructing a map projection can be done by coordinatograph... This instrument creates the two orthogonal axes of rectangular coordinates by means of one fixed steel beam and a travelling steel gantry which has a moving plotting head attached to it. Linear displacements of the gantry and the plotting head may be transferred to scales by means of lead-screws or a rack-and-pinion movement. RADARSAT ScanSAR Beam Modes: A ScanSAR beam mode is composed of either two, three, or four single beams. The sequence of beams is organized so that the data is collected from a larger area, than what can be collected using a single beam. The ability to "steer" the radar beam using different incidence angles increases the frequency of repeat coverage. For the ScanSAR beam modes, the radar backscatter decrease resulting from incidence angle differences within the image range should be considered before interpreting the image brightness of a specific target. "F. Martin's Recording balance" produced by the Prolabo Co., Paris, works on the hydrometer principle. A cylindrical container is hung from the right balance arm and is surrounded by an external sedimentation cylinder. The suspended material is poured into the cylinder, and the scales are balanced. As the particles gradually settle, the buoyancy operating in the inner cylinder becomes smaller. The force exerted on the left balance beam is therefore increased proportionally to the weight of the settling particles. Il s'agit de balances de sédimentation, dont il existe deux types: 1) La balance "Sartorius", qui fonctionne sur le même principe que la balance "Doeglas", mais sur une gamme granulométrique beaucoup plus fine. 2) La balance "Martin" ("Prolabo", Paris) fonctionne au contraire sur le principe de l'aéromètre. Un cylindre plongeant dans la suspension est suspendu au plateau d'une balance à chaîne. Il subit une poussée de plus en plus faible au cours de la sédimentation.
