Translational slides. A translational or planar landslide is a downslope movement of material that occurs along a distinctive planar surface of weakness such as a fault, joint or bedding plane. Some of the largest and most damaging landslides on Earth are translational. These landslides occur at all scales and are not self-stabilising. They can be very rapid where discontinuities are steep.

A rollover anticline is directly the result of faulting. The idea is that an extensional fault... can form with a non-smooth shape... New sediments are deposited on the downthrown block as the fault moves. They are originally deposited as flat-lying units(zero dip). As they displace downwards, they maintain a constant angle of inclination relative to the fault dip. If the fault surface becomes less steep... with depth, the beds become increasingly tilted(to keep the same angle between fault surface and bedding surface).... The tilting produced by the fault... causes the beds to dip in the opposite direction... towards the basin margin. The reversal of dip makes an anticline.

rollover: The down-warping of the hanging wall block along a lystric fault, which occurs when a space opens next to the fault. The resulting structure is usually called a "rollover anticline."

paleokarstic surface: A surface, preserved within a carbonate succession, that was formed by the effects of karst erosion. The presence of a paleokarstic surface indicates that during the deposition of the full rock sequence the young rocks were exposed to the effects of surface (subaerial) erosion. During such a nondepositional and erosional phase a full suite of karst features, including caves, could develop.

These surfaces are interpreted as palaeokarstic because the pits are :(1) perpendicular to bedding and not the present land surface;(2) infilled with very poorly sorted siltstone, and(3) overlain by lignitic shales indicating terrestrial influx. A markedly flattened and somewhat rounded pellet or curled fragment, chip, or flake of clay, generally embedded in a sandy matrix and esp. abundant at the base of sandy beds. It may arise from the drying and cracking of a thin layer of coherent mud, the fragment commonly being rolled or blown into sand and buried, and forming a lenticular bleb upon wetting.
