The National Artists Program, a federally funded project held in conjunction with the 2003 Canada Winter Games, will be held in Bathurst and Campbellton, New Brunswick from February 22 to March 8, 2003. The Program will focus on the following four artistic disciplines : Dance, Music, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts. The primary objective is to create artistic works inspired by and representative of the spirit of the Canada Games. The Games motto "Come Celebrate Winter", local settings, Games sporting venues, and the wide diversity of the participants should provide an excellent starting point for these artistic works. Four participants from each province and territory between the ages of 16 and 23 years of age(one in each of the four disciplines) will be featured during the two weeks of the Games. The participant will travel on the chartered airplanes as part of the provincial/territorial teams, the cost being borne by the federal government. The philosophy of the National Artists Program is to "bring together bright and talented young artists from each province and territory(representing a variety of disciplines) and challenge them, under the guidance of senior arts facilitators, to use the games as the inspiration for their art in order to see "the artistic and cultural dynamics that can be produced when the best of Canada's budding athletes come together with the best of Canada's emerging artists.

While the simple blast cell is the most prolific technology today for freezing bulk materials, processors are investigating other forms of inexpensive freezing that can drop temperature quickly and flexibly. Plate freezing and continuous belt freezing are two examples. In plate freezing, the product is generally placed in a leak-proof bag, although in some cases direct contact is used, and then compressed between two plates that are held at-40°F. Freezing times of just a few hours are possible, depending on the thickness of the product. Continuous freezing belt systems are similar to a blast cell in terms of air flow and temperature, with the primary difference being that instead of staging palletized product, boxed product moves on a slow conveyor belt within an enclosure. This allows differently shaped and sized boxes to be loaded simultaneously and usually requires a 24-hour dwell time to reach zero. It is a bit slower than plate freezing, but with more product flexibility.

The Tall Ships’ Races, formerly known as the "Cutter Sark Tall Ships’ Races, "are long-distance races for sailing ships. The races were originally sponsored by Berry Brothers and Rudd-marketers of Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky(the Cutty Sark being their trademark as well as a preserved tea clipper lying at Greenwich in London). The races are held annually in European waters and consist of two racing legs of several hundred nautical miles, and a "cruise in company" between the legs. The Cutty Sark was in 1869 one of the last sailing clippers to be built, and she is the only classic clipper still surviving. She is now preserved in dry dock at Greenwich in London. Cutty Sark has inspired the name of a brand of whisky. An image of the ship appears on the label, and the maker has sponsored the Cutty Sark Tall Ships’ Race.

The World Festival of Youth and Students is an international event, organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth(WFDY), a left-wing yough organization, jointly with the International Union of Students since 1947. As a former gunnery officer, Fisher revolutionized battleship design with the first all-big-gun ship, the HMS Dreadnought. Fisher was a firm believer in two things, the first being that speed was as good a form of protection as armor. His second belief was in the overwhelming power of large-caliber naval guns, and he firmly held that a single, devastating hit would decide most capital ship engagements. These two premises led to the development of the battlecruiser and to the rapid increase in gun sizes with each generation of ships. Envisioned as a sort of "super armored cruiser, "the type was designed to scout for the battlefleet without fear from enemy cruisers, yet was fast enough to escape an enemy battleship. They were to be capable of running down any existing cruiser and destroying it, thus protecting British supply lines to her overseas empire.

Au nom de tous les Canadiens et Canadiennes, le gouvernement fédéral remet des Prix d'excellence à cent fonctionnaires. Seules ou en équipes, ces personnes ont fait preuve d'un courage exceptionnel, ont suggéré des façons ingénieuses d'améliorer les services offerts à la population canadienne ou ont formulé des recommandations qui ont permis aux contribuables d'économiser annuellement des centaines de milliers de dollars. Le Prix d'excellence, la plus insigne distinction accordée aux fonctionnaires, et le Prix d'équité en emploi sont décernés dans le cadre de la Semaine nationale de la fonction publique qui, cette année, se déroule du 11 au 17 juin 1995.

A basin, pond or lake in which sudden influxes of surface run-off water is temporarily held before being released at a slower, controlled rate into the drainage system.

In certain circumstances it may be desirable to shape the ground to allow surface water to collect in a water storage pond on site. This concept of retaining surface water run-off by reducing the peak water impact on the storm sewer capacity and by providing an attractive site feature, may be economical on large sites. It may also be possible to use a less expensive underground sewer system with fewer or smaller diameter pipes because the peak water impact will be collected by the retention pond instead of the sewer system.

A retention basin that forms a part of the air-conditioning system for the A.C. Nielsen corporate headquarters, Chicago, is also a significant feature of the site design.

Developed specifically for use in the microgravity environment, the Space DRUMSÖ(Dynamically Responding Ultrasonic Matrix System) facility uses an acoustic levitation process that enables large fluid or solid material samples to be positioned and held stably in microgravity while they are being processed on the space station. Called containerless processing, this leading-edge system of dynamic acoustic beam positioning prevents the samples from touching the walls of their containers, thus avoiding defects or contamination.
