The dribble belts are rough surface rubber belts set at an incline and rolling uphill(on the top surface).... We used a total of 5 dribble belts which are fed in series to result in a cumulative cleaning/sorting process. The first belt receives the "strippage" from the primary conveyor belt under the stripping section. The [hop] cones roll "downhill", while the leaves and less round debris such as branches stick to the rough surface and are drawn uphill along with some of the cones that don’t roll down the first dribble belt. Whatever hasn’t rolled down the first belt is delivered to the second where another round of separation takes place. This continues over 5 belts with the "trash" being deposited over the top of the last dribble belt onto a trash conveyor while the cones that come off the bottom of each dribble belt are deposited onto a primary hop conveyor.

Researchers have also developed a device that automates the inspection of ready-to-eat mandarin segments. After being individually separated on a vibrating platform, the segments are transported on a conveyor belt to the inspection area, which can examine up to 28 segments per second. At this stage, the broken segments are separated from the whole segments... and the same goes for those with or without seeds. Skin and any other foreign bodies are also identified and eliminated from the production line.

... what makes some extratropical cyclones produce catastrophically damaging winds.... [Keith Browning and Pete Clark] have identified a mesoscale flow which they call the Sting Jet. It originates in the cloud head of a rapidly deepening cyclone and gathers speed as it descends towards the tip of the cloud head when it begins to hook around the cyclone centre... The Sting Jet was first identified observationally from a reanalysis of the Great Storm of October 1987 where the damaging winds were shown to be emanating from the evaporating tip of the hooked cloud head. It has since been reproduced in high-resolution runs with the mesoscale version of the Unified Model. The Sting Jet is distinct from the usual strong-wind region associated with the warm conveyor belt and main cold front. There are indications that conditional symmetric instability and evaporation both play a role in its formation but the importance of these processes remains to be quantified.

While the simple blast cell is the most prolific technology today for freezing bulk materials, processors are investigating other forms of inexpensive freezing that can drop temperature quickly and flexibly. Plate freezing and continuous belt freezing are two examples. In plate freezing, the product is generally placed in a leak-proof bag, although in some cases direct contact is used, and then compressed between two plates that are held at-40°F. Freezing times of just a few hours are possible, depending on the thickness of the product. This allows differently shaped and sized boxes to be loaded simultaneously and usually requires a 24-hour dwell time to reach zero. It is a bit slower than plate freezing, but with more product flexibility.

The most common treatment involves placing phostoxin tablets in the infested grain as it flows from conveyor belt to storage bin. The bin is sealed and the tablets emit a gas which kills the insects. The fermentation of solid substrates such as starchy or cellulosic materials can be approached in two different ways. The solid material can be suspended in an aqueous medium. A general problem with such preparations is that gelatinization of the starches, etc. can generate highly viscous broths causing poor mixing and O2 transfer at dry weight concentrations higher than 2% w/v. There is also the obvious diseconomy of adding so much water to the substrate only to remove it from the product. Alternatively, then, the problem is approached through ’solid state fermentation’, the growth of microorganisms on solid materials without the presence of free liquid.

In the former system, the organisms are grown on the surface of the substrate, which is spread on shallow trays about 2-4 cm deep; the trays are incubated in air-conditioned rooms or cabinets. The simplest deep bed systems consist of heaps of substrate that may be stirred periodically by hand. More sophisticated, fully automated systems include rotating drums, conveyor belt systems, which pass through air-conditioned tunnels, or deep tanks through which air is blown. The substrates used are generally based on wheat bran.

A belt conveyor to serve between a loader or continuous miner and the main transport. It consists of two main units-a head and a tail section-each mounted on crawler tracks and independently driven. In operation, the tail unit, i. e. the receiving end, moves forward with the loading machine, and belting is automatically released from a loop take-up. Fifty feet advance is possible before additional belting has to be inserted into the conveyor run. Capacity equals 280 t. p. h. with a 30-in. belt.

This shovel is widely used for stone loading. Various models are available to meet particular conditions of track gage, mine car size or headroom available. The loading bucket, mounted on a rocker arm, is pushed forward into the pile of debris; the rocker arm is then actuated to swing the loaded bucket over the rocker carriage and to deliver the bucket load into a mine car or, in the case of one of the models, on to a variable-speed belt conveyor which in turn delivers into the mine car. Le mouvement de roulement est obtenu par le treuil T sur lequel s'enroule une chaîne passant sur la poulie de contrainte p et aboutissant au berceau en C. Dans la position de déchargement, C occupe la position C[prime]. Le godet revient ensuite à sa position de chargement, la rotation du treuil étant inversée et la pesanteur aidant.
