Fruit Cooling. Requirement : Cool on the same day as picked from the orchard, hundreds of crates of fruit from the field temperature(core at perhaps 95 degrees) to as close as 33 degrees storage temperature as possible prior to passage to the storage rooms. This requires a hydro-cooling system that will deliver large quantities of recirculated water at 33 degrees that can be flooded over the warm fruit on a conveyor belt that accepts fruit from the field and delivers it to the storage rooms. Inside Bake Ovens(IBO) are used in the beverage container industry. Aluminum cans are coated inside for sanitation purposes and to prevent aluminum taste in the beverage. Typically the cans are spray coated and transferred to a flat belt conveyor. This conveyor transfers the cans to the belt going through the oven.... A very precisely engineered air delivery system is used to apply heated process air to the can pack as it goes through the oven. The air must be sufficient enough to plunge into the can and reach the depth of the coating and yet be gentle enough to not tip the very light aluminum can. Mechanical street sweepers are the "heavy duty" machines of the industry; having the capability to move the most material in the least amount of time. This general class of street sweeper utilize a system of brooms and either a "squeegee" or belt conveyor to move debris from the ground into a hopper contained within the street sweeper. A mechanical broom sweeper can pick up large chunks of debris. A mechanical broom sweeper can "dig into" and remove hard packed dirt and mud. Mechanical sweepers are very efficient when picking up wet leaves, large aggregate particles, small limbs, smashed cans, etc. Dust control for this type of machine can be a problem because of the churning action of the brooms. The fermentation of solid substrates such as starchy or cellulosic materials can be approached in two different ways. The solid material can be suspended in an aqueous medium. A general problem with such preparations is that gelatinization of the starches, etc. can generate highly viscous broths causing poor mixing and O₂ transfer at dry weight concentrations higher than 2% w/v. There is also the obvious diseconomy of adding so much water to the substrate only to remove it from the product. Such techniques can be divided into two basic types : thin layer and deep bed.
