Cortland is a type of apple. After the many attributes of McIntosh were discovered, plant breeders began crossing it with other varieties to enhance its traits. One of the earliest was the Cortland, combined with the Ben Davis variety. Its flavor is sweet compared to McIntosh, and it has a flush of crimson against a pale yellow background sprinkled with short, dark red stripes and gray-green dots. Cortland has very white flesh and is an excellent dessert apple.

La Cortland est une pomme de choix pour la cuisson au four car elle ne s'émiette pas facilement, elle est aussi très pratique pour les salades car sa pulpe ne brunit pas.

Canadian Idol is a reality television show on the Canadian television network CTV, based on the popular British show Pop Idol and its American counterpart American Idol. The show is a competition to find the best young signer in Canada. It is hosted by Ben Mulroney. The show begins with a cross Canada tour in which singers audition in front of four judges. Eventually the performers are narrowed down to 10 finalists, with each competitor performing live. Viewers have two hours following the broadcast of the show to phone in their votes for their favorite competitor. On the following night's episode(live again), the competitor with the fewest votes is sent home.

Interstellar gas and dust. The main constituents of our galaxy or Milky Way are the stars. However, the space between the stars is not empty, but is occupied with a significant amount of matter in the form of gas and dust... Roughly speaking the stars constitute 70% and the gas 30% of the mass of the Milky Way in the neighborhood of the sun... By far most of the interstellar gas is hydrogen. As of the present time, only the atomic form of hydrogen has ben detected, although it is certainly possible that molecular hydrogen may also be found.

Although interstellar gas is possibly 100 hundred times as dense, on the average, as the dust, because of its high tranparency it is not visible by reflected starlight, nor does it contribute to the general interstellar absorption.

Ben C. Gerwick, Inc. has recently completed physical tests on three 1/2-scale continuous standard-weight reinforced concrete deep beams, for Mobil Oil and Metalock Industrier A/S, of Norway. The study was established to better determine the influence of headed stirrups on the performance of deep beams and to compare the performance of three different transverse shear reinforcing levels(1%, 1. 5%, and 2%), with the performance predicted by the ACI and CSA standards. The use of headed stirrups offers a number of advantages over conventional bent stirrups, including : 1. More rigid restraint of the lateral expansion of concrete under high strains.
