The Festival has been in continuous existence from 1945 to the present. It was originally known as the Ottawa Music Festival Association until 1985 when the Kiwanis Clubs of the National Capital Region assumed shared responsibility with non-Kiwanian volunteers for the Festival. At that time the name of the organization was changed to the Kiwanis Music Festival. Later the Festival was expanded to include Dance competitions as well as Music. The name of the organization was then changed to its current title. With the incorporation of Dance, the Festival has grown in size from about sixth place in the Province to second place. The Festival has maintained a steady growth in number of entries ever since. 1998 will be the fourth year for Speech Arts. Robert H. Goddard was the world's first person to ever launch a liquid fueled rocket. He was a New England physics professor and an American rocket pioneer. In the early 1900's, Dr. Goddard considered the idea of a liquid fueled rocket utilizing hydrogen and oxygen. In his studies he noticed that solid fueled rockets produced a lower exhaust velocity, which means it would make the rocket go faster. He pioneered the invention of rockets that used liquid oxygen and hydrogen. He also discovered "Rapid Reactions" which was the rapid loading of liquid fuels. NDHQ 97 is the largest accommodation project ever undertaken by the Department of National Defence or the government. It's more than just moving people from building to building. It's refitting buildings and general office space, using a new design concept called the universal footprint. It's adapting accommodation to re-engineered organizations. It's also purchasing and installing furniture best suited to a modern, dynamic organization. The headquarters will have a new look. In the four buildings... corridors will run along the windows. Offices will be clustered at the centre of each floor. Major traffic will flow outside work areas, not through them. People working in teams will have work areas designed for teams. Offices will have more natural light, better air conditioning and better ventilation. Some screens will have glazed windows to allow natural light to spill through. Each workstation will include large, well-lit work surfaces for computers and overall, will have more usable workspace. Plenty of storage space will be located above and below work surfaces. But employees will be encouraged to make the most of their space by storing information on diskette, rather than in filing cabinets. The look will be cleaner and less cluttered. QGDN 97 est le plus gros projet d'aménagement de locaux entrepris par le ministère de la Défense nationale ou le gouvernement. Il y aura davantage de lumière naturelle dans les bureaux, et la climatisation ainsi que la ventilation seront meilleures. Certaines cloisons auront des fenêtres vitrées pour permettre la diffusion de la lumière naturelle. Chaque poste de travail comprendra de grandes surfaces bien éclairées pour les ordinateurs et offriront, dans l'ensemble, un plus grand espace utilisable. Il y aura en outre beaucoup de rangement au-dessus et au-dessous des surfaces de travail. Les employés seront toutefois encouragés à maximiser leur espace en emmagasinant l'information sur disquette plutôt que dans des classeurs. Les locaux auront ainsi l'air plus propres et plus dégagés.
