The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival(IAF) is generally regarded as the most prestigious international advertising festival. The five to seven day festival is held annually in the city of Cannes, France, usually in the third week of June, with 2008 marking its 55th year. Le Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival a lieu tous les ans à Cannes et compte parmi les plus prestigieuses manifestations de la branche. Captivés par le charme des festivals de Cannes et de Venise, des producteurs européens de films publicitaires avaient lancé en 1954 l'International Advertising Film Festival. Jusqu'en 1984, celui-ci était organisé alternativement sur la Croisette ou sur le Lido. Lorsqu'en 1992 il s'est ouvert aux imprimés, le mot «film» a été rayé du nom. Depuis lors, les catégories se sont multipliées : Young Creatives Competition, Cyber Lions, Media Lions, Lions Direct, etc. Le jury décerne aussi des prix spéciaux dont la «Palme d'or». Chaque année, 20 000 œuvres sont envoyées de tous les pays du globe pour être évaluées par un jury international : plus de 5 000 films publicitaires, quelques 10 000 annonces et affiches, 1 500 titres internet, plus de 800 solutions média et plus de 1 200 propositions pour le marketing direct. The format of what would become the Shearwater International Air Show or SIAS began to crystallize in 1981. Obviously, it could not compete with bigger shows playing to larger population centres. So, if the biggest was not possible, SIAS aimed to be the best. The show's search for excellence was rewarded by many successes; air displays equaling any in the country and over 75 different static aircraft from as many as seven countries. In addition, over 80 high-quality ground exhibits were displayed, including such as an Iraqi Scud missile and the weapon which brought it down, the US Army's Patriot System. Efforts to raise the Nova Scotia International Air Show(NSIAS) from the ashes were unsuccessful in 1996, but a few dedicated believers took on the task to try again for 1997 and were more than rewarded for their efforts. NSIAS 97 was a co-production of the three levels of government, the private sector and the military in the Atlantic Region. A lot of hard work, negotiations and good will produced a first class show that had all the trade marks of past SIAS events and then some. At the time the Vasa was raised, in 1961, there were no conventional techniques adequate to preserve such an enormous artifact.... While new methods were being worked on, the ship was enclosed in a large storage house.... The sprinkler system was the best solution. Le traitement de consolidation et de conservation du bois [...] fait intervenir des procédés complexes [...]. These are then increased and tested agronomically as well as for quality. If any characteristic is not satisfactory, the experimental line is discarded.
