The main storage bins are usually hoppered and an automatic conveying system moves the grain to intermediate storage bins from which different grades are blended into the milling grist. The main storage bins are arranged to feed back into the intake elevator to provide for turning over the grain from one bin to another. This turning over is sometimes necessary to keep the grain in sound condition. Provision is also made for drying grain. The batch-in-bin drying process involves using a bin as a batch dryer. A 3 to 4-foot deep layer of grain is placed in the bin and the fan and heater started. Typical drying air temperatures are 120 to 160F with airflow rates of 8 to 15 cfm/bushel. Drying begins at the floor and progresses upward. Grain at the floor of the bin becomes excessively dry while the top layer of the batch remains fairly wet. The grain is cooled in the bin after it is dried. Some batch-in-bin dryers hold the grain being dried in a layer near the roof. After the grain is dried it is dropped to the bin floor where it is cooled. As the grain is moved from the bin, the grain is mixed, and the average moisture content going into final storage should be low enough that mold growth will not be a problem.  2, fiche 2, Anglais, - batch%20dryer

Two types of plants are used to make hot mix asphalt concrete, the batch type mixing plant and the drum mix plant A batch plant mixes, then drops individual batches of hot mix asphalt concrete and a drum mix plant is a continuous flow type of production plant. In a batch type mixing plant different sizes of aggregates are drawn from a multi-bin cold feed system into an enclosed counter flow rotary drum. After the aggregate is dried, it is lifted to the top of the batching tower and on to a screen system which separates the aggregate into different sizes and then drops the different sizes into individual bins. Aggregate is then drawn from the hot bins in predetermined amounts, weighed and dropped into a pug mill mixer with the correct amount of liquid asphalt. The batch is mixed, then dropped into a waiting truck or sent to a surge bin until trucks arrive. In a drum mix plant a metered, four compartment, cold feed bin system supplies the exact amount of the required size of aggregates to the rotating drum mixer The drum mixer is an inclined, parallel flow dryer/mixer in which the aggregate is dried and heated in the upper section of the drum, then mixed with liquid in the lower part of the drum. From the drum the hot mix is discharged into a hot elevator which lifts the finished product to a surge hopper or storage silo both equipped to load trucks.  4, fiche 5, Anglais, - drum
