Blount's disease occurs in children with no apparent abnormality at birth, having a typical history of "genu varum" worsening with gait before the age of 2 years. The less frequent juvenile onset may occur between 4 and 10 years and the adolescent form over 11 years.... Blount's disease is believed to result from abnormal compression of the medial aspect of the proximal tibial physes, causing retardation of growth in that area or increased growth laterally of the proximal tibia or fibula... Blount's disease is a condition found in children that affects the growth plates around the knee. The disease causes the growth plate near the inside of the knee to either slow down or stop making new bone. Meanwhile, the growth plate near the outside of the knee continues to grow normally. Resulting from aseptic necrosis of the medial tibial condyle, Blount's disease can develop in infancy and adolescence. Infantile Blount's disease is usually bilateral... It occurs five times more frequently than the adolescent type, between the ages of 1 and 3 years and can heal spontaneously... Blount's disease can occur in growing children of any age and is classified into three forms : infantile(in children less than 3 years), juvenile(in children 4 to 10 years) and adolescent(in those aged 11 years and older).
