A laser scriber can be used in place of a diamond scriber for dicing wafers of silicon, gallium arsenide, and other semiconductor materials used in the production of semiconductor diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits. The laser beam vaporizes grooves in the upper active face of the wafer, after which a breaking operation separates the chips along the grooves. An appliance for loosening coal by means of high-pressure water and oil. It consists of a round stainless steel bar with small telescopic rams acting on a steel liner in a shothole. When the sumping operation is complete, the head travels upwards towards the top of the seam, breaking out the coal as it moves.
