The preliminary mechanical processing of the dried [hemp] stalks involves some fairly vigorous handling of the raw material, including breaking, scutching and the separation of the line fibres from the tow and other by-products. The stronger, more solid fibre bundles keep their original lengths and parallelism. During breaking and scutching the weaker and shorter fibres(tow), especially those at the foot of the stalks, break away and are removed together with the hurds, dust, soil, etc.... The hurds are removed pneumatically and may be sold for use as natural fertiliser, for the heat insulation of buildings, as fuel or as animal litter... The de-icer actuated by cartridge(DAC) can be used for emergency work on... transmission lines. The DAC is a portable device operated by remote control. It consists of a cylinder-and-piston system that can be suspended from a conductor or ground wire and fired by means of an electronic trigger. Installation from the ground is facilitated by the use of a line thrower. A cavesson resembles a heavy, well fitting halter and is the preferred headpiece for longeing(lungeing) English horses. "Breaking" cavessons are generally made of stout leather with heavy metal nosepieces and have straps to fasten them securely and keep them in position because during "breaking" it is often necessary to tug or pull quite hard on the line to control the horse. The traditional cavesson is made from leather but nylon cavessons are also available. A longeing (lungeing) cavesson has a padded noseband with a jointed metal nosepiece that usually has 3 swivel-mounted rings attached to it. Generally the middle ring is used for longeing (lungeing) unless a horse carries his head to the outside of the circle extremely. In that case, the inside cavesson ring can be used to bend the horse inward on the longeing (lungeing) circle.
