Cloth spreading machine. A spreading carriage is mounted to reciprocate to-and-fro along a spreading table. The major components of the stairway are the carriage, stair, handrails, and shroud. The carriage consists of an actuator, side plates, shafts, gears, chains, sprockets, cams, and cam followers.... Tracks in the forward and aft sides of the shroud support the carriage and provide a means of installing the stairway in the airplane. Springs, mounted in the closed end of the shroud, provide tension on the carriage to prevent movement of the stair when the stair is retracted. A detent stop assembly, with a mechanical lock, is provided for securing the carriage and stair in the extended position when electrical power is to be removed from the stairway circuits.

Reciprocating screw systems. In a reciprocating(in-line) screw, the material is fed from the hopper, plasticized in the screw, and forced past a one-way valve at the injection end of the screw. The material accumulates in front of the screw, forcing back the screw, its drive and motor, and the pistons of the two hydraulic injection cylinders.... When the screw reaches a certain position, it contacts a limit switch that stops the rotation. When the cycle is ready to inject, two hydraulic injection cylinders, one on each side of the carriage, move the screw assembly forward and use the screw as an injection ram.

Log quality is measured by the volume and quality of the potential lumber yield. External characteristics of the log such as diameter, surface indicators, and position in the tree(butt logs or uppers), are used to estimate potential lumber quality.
