The Zarya control module, also known by the technical term Functional Cargo Block and the Russian acronym FGB, was the first component launched for the International Space Station and provides the station's initial propulsion and power.... The U. S.-funded and Russian-built Zarya, which means Sunrise when translated to English, is a U. S. component of the station although it was built and launched by Russia.... The Zarya module is 41. 2 feet long and 13. 5 feet wide at its widest point. It has an operational lifetime of at least 15 years. Its solar arrays and six nickel-cadmium batteries can provide an average of 3 kilowatts of electrical power. Using the Russian Kurs system, the Zarya will perform an automated and remotely piloted rendezvous and docking with the Service Module in orbit. Its docking power will accommodate Russian Soyuz piloted spacecraft and unpiloted Progress resupply spacecraft. Each of the two solar arrays is 35 feet long and 11 feet wide. The module's 16 fuel tanks combined can hold more than 6 tons of propellant. The attitude control system for the module includes 24 large steering jets and 12 small steering jets. Two large engines are available for reboosting the spacecraft and making major orbital changes.

The Zarya module now provides orientation control, communications and electrical power attached to the passive Unity module while the station awaits launch of the third component, a Russian-provided crew living quarters and early station core known as the Service Module ... The Service Module will enhance or replace many functions of the Zarya. The Canadian Coalition on Cancer Surveillance(CCOCS) was created to lead the development of an integrated national cancer surveillance system. Once operational, this system will link existing provincial and national systems, in effect creating a "network of networks, "and it will provide information for cancer control planners, providers and policy-makers of today and tomorrow. Surveillance is an integral component of the cancer control continuum, and the CCOCS is working in tandem with the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control initiative.

The Avionics Air Assembly(AAA) is a central component in U. S. rack equipment thermal management. The AAA provides the capability to remove the rack airborne sensible heat loads and transfer them to the Internal Thermal Control System(ITCS). It receives on/off signals and electable speed commands from a command interface and provides two temperature signals and a speed feedback signal. Ambient rack air is drawn into the AAA via an internal fan, cooled with an air/liquid heat exchanger and then redistributed within the rack.

The Avionics Air Assembly (AAA), which interfaces with the temperature cooling loop, converts cool water to cool air, and circulates the cooled air through the rack and past the racks’ smoke detector. The AAA can cool up to 1200 W of payload waste heat.

The PVR [Photovoltaic Radiator] is a critical component of the space station's thermal control system. It will cool the photovoltaic power system electronic equipment and the batteries used for power storage. The PVR will also provide environmental cooling for the service module during early phases of the space station. Each PVR Orbital Replacement Unit(ORU) consists of 7 radiator panels, each about 6 feet by 12 feet in size. The radiator panels are designed to deploy on orbit from a stowed position about 2 feet high to an extended position about 50 feet in length. Each ORU weighs about 1, 600 pounds, with a total of 4 units in the final space station configuration.

When it takes control of the interaction, MHO dynamically generates tasks-electrical circuits and questions about them-that have to fulfil two conditions. First, observing the student's performance on each task should maximize the information made available concerning possible changes in her knowledge state. Second, each task should concentrate on elements of the curriculum that are in the current focus so that diagnostic information can direct the course of instruction.

For occasions when a student wants to understand the structure of a control component in details, STEAMER has a facility called the feedback minilab(Forbus, 1984a), where simulated devices can be assembled and tested. On the minilab's screen, the student has a menu of icons representing abstract functions typical of control devices, such as measuring subcomponents or comparators. She can select these abstract components and assemble them on the screen to construct her own control devices. The minilab is then able to generate code from subcomponent specifications to produce a simulation program for the device. Hence, once a controller has been constructed graphically in this way, it can be integrated into a simulation so that its effects on the embedding system can be observed. As implemented, the minilab has limited tutorial capabilities : it can critique the student's device by locating common bugs and recognizing some instances of known devices. Its pedagogical significance lies in its definition of abstract components in terms that allows simulated devices to be built. It is very important for students to acquire this vocabulary of functional abstractions, and the minilab helps root the abstractions’ meaning in direct experiments.
