Eid al-Adha is a significant annual Islamic observance for many Muslims in Canada. It is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice or Festival of Sacrifice as it commemorates Ibrahim's(Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son to God. Eid al-Adha is celebrated in Muslim communities throughout Canada around the 10th to the 13th days of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah(or Dhul Hijja). It is a time marked by special prayers and many Muslims gather for special prayer services. Many people also visit family and friends, exchange greetings and gifts, and make donations to the poor and needy. Eid al-Adha is also a time for forgiveness and compassion. Eid al-Adha is known as the Feast of Sacrifice because it traditionally includes the sacrifice of an animal permitted for food(eg. a lamb) as an act of thanksgiving for God's mercy. The Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival grew from the seed of a harpsichord recital in 1971. By 1975 it was firmly rooted, staging its first concert in July 1976. Founded by harpsichordist Mathieu Duguay, it has attracted thousands of music lovers to the picturesque island, delighting them with early music performed in the exceptional acoustics of the colourful Sainte-Cécile church in Petite-Rivière-de-l'Île. It is unique in Canada for its dedication to music from the period 1600-1760, presenting outstanding performances on period instruments(or replicas.) The Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival is a multi-day festival celebrated jointly by the cities of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario to commemorate each country's respective National Day(US Independence Day on July 4 and Canada Day on July 1). It is organized by the Parade Company, a not for profit organization governed by the Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation. It has a long list of sponsors. The celebration draws large crowds of around a million people. Traditionally, several days of events planned, ending with one of the world's largest fireworks displays, sponsored by Target.
