Alpha-gal syndrome(AGS) is a serious and unusual food allergy to red(mammalian) meat. It occurs in people who have been bitten by certain types of ticks, usually if they’ve been bitten more than once.... The saliva of some ticks contains a sugar molecule called alpha-gal(α-Gal). When alpha-gal enters the bloodstream, it can increase your sensitivity to red meat. This can trigger an immune system response. Your body reacts as if red meat is harmful, causing allergic symptoms. Dans la salive de la tique se trouve un sucre : le α-gal. C'est en mordant son hôte que la tique lui injecte le sucre. Il faut savoir que l'α-gal est présent chez la plupart des mammifères, incluant le bœuf, le porc et l'agneau, mais absent chez l'humain. Donc, au contact de l'α-gal transmis par la tique, certains individus, mais pas tous, développeront des anticorps (IgE) contre le sucre en question. Plus tard, lorsque la personne mangera de la viande rouge qui, rappelons-le, contient de l'α-gal, les anticorps reconnaîtront le sucre, ce qui provoquera une réaction allergique. Toutefois, contrairement à la réaction typique découlant d'une allergie alimentaire, le syndrome α-gal se manifeste plusieurs heures (jusqu'à 10 heures dans certains cas) après la consommation de viande rouge. Glymphatic flow answers the long standing question of how the sensitive neural tissue of the CNS functions in the absence of a conventional lymphatic circulation. Grâce au système glymphatique, un liquide appelé liquide céphalo-rachidien (LCR) est perfusé dans le tissu nerveux cérébral. Sous pression, le LCR entraîne ensuite avec lui les déchets accumulés dans le tissu nerveux, avant d’être drainé et recollecté par d’autres conduites du système glymphatique qui l’évacuent finalement dans la circulation sanguine. The Biotechnology Mammalian Tissue Culture facility has been conceived for research on cell and tissue culture. It will be essential in furthering our understanding of the influence of the cell microenvironment on growth and differentiation. The core of the system will provide robust control of concentration gradients and of mechanical forces thanks to the integration of fluid distribution tools, microsensors, and microactuators. The emphasis is put on the mimicking of organotypical conditions and on the acquisition of data to be used for guided tissue development and differentiation in both space and terrestrial conditions. In addition to this core cultivation subunit, a powerful diagnostics subunit allows for dedicated tools adapted to the tissue undergoing testing. Avipoxviruses, including Fowlpoxvirus(FPV) have been shown previously to infect mammalian cells but are unable to complete their replication cycle. Avipoxvirus based rabies and HIV vaccines have shown promise in preclinical studies. We have begun work to develop the FPV system for application to HPV CTL. We first constructed a new FPV insertion vector(Fig. 3) which facilitates production of recombinant viruses by co-insertion of the gpt marker gene under the control of a vaccinia virus 19K promoter.
