The term "peaceful uses of outer space" appears in official government statements and multilateral treaties. However, the examination of the state practice leads to the conclusion that this term is still without an authoritative definition. It is a source of considerable confusion and creates a legal grey area. The widely accepted interpretation of this key term of space law prior to the begin of space age, namely that "peaceful" means "non-military, "was soon contradicted by the practice of two space powers. In the period between 1957 and the adoption of the Outer Space Treaty in 1967, these two powers had placed into orbit a number of military payloads and had come increasingly dependent on space technology in their military planning. Since the term "peaceful" continues to be used, it is useful to examine the meaning of this ambiguous adjective.

The X-15 provided the first opportunity to study the effects of acoustical fatigue over a wide range of Mach and dynamic pressures. The intent for multispectral and hyperspectral image data analysis is to rapidly and inexpensively associate a ground cover label to each pixel in the image. Its solar array release system, which employs the principle of cutting of an aramid hold-down cable by a thermal knife, has numerous advantages over, for instance, pyrotechnic devices. Orbiting Astronomical Observatory(OAO), series of four orbiting observatories launched between 1966 and 1972 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) to provide astronomical data in the ultraviolet and X-ray wavelengths filtered out by the earth's atmosphere. Carrying what was at that time the largest telescope ever orbited and three smaller X-ray telescopes, OAO-3 was primarily used in the study of ultraviolet radiation from interstellar gas and dust and from stars near the edges of the Milky Way.

There are tow types of matrix multiplication : scalar-by-matrix multiplication and matrix-by-matrix multiplication. As a noun, a scalar is a single number or scale factor that all the matrix elements are multiplied by in scalar multiplication. This is used to scale down all the elements of a matrix in equal proportion. In graphics, this is used on row and column vectors that represent points in space. It moves a point radially toward or away from the origin(0, 0, 0). This is often done to put the values of x, y, and z within a range that graphics routines can more easily handle, especially when integer arithmetic is being performed.
