deconvolution microscope : using the deconvolution microscope, researchers can see the locations of target molecules inside the cell. Seeing where glowing molecules reside within a cell is helpful for a range of research projects--from studies of how the distribution of various proteins changes during an organism's development to investigations of how administration of a drug alters the locations of certain proteins. The microscope, called DeltaVision, is manufactured by Applied Precision, based in Issaquah, Wash. It works by magnifying images and quantifying the intensity of light shed by the sample. The user specifies which colors of light are of interest. For instance, a user can program the microscope to report the intensity of a particular shade of green shining from the cytoplasm of a cell. After a researcher uses the microscope to make a series of optical slices through a specimen, the scope's computer "deconvolves" the images--in other words, it subtracts the out-of-focus light. Then the computer stacks together the images of the slices to reconstruct the original microscope sample. This gives researchers gh-resolution images of the sample's three-dimensional structure.

The stall guard or chain may be used to keep the animal in a stall for a short period or long time period.... However, utilizing stall guards and chains instead of solid stall doors will help to improve the air circulation in the barn. The guard is also easier to adjust to the individual horse than a solid or Dutch door would be. Providing a stall with a stall guard that allows a horse to look out may calm a nervous horse... Horses are usually social creatures, preferring to be in larger groups. Being able to look out of the stall and see other horses will be reassuring to the horse.... In addition, the stall guard can assist in training a horse.... Another use for stall guards is to display information or to make a show barn look classier. Owners of show horses or race horses frequently have stall guards customized with their logos and stable colors to enhance their business image.... Stall guards may also be used as a temporary method of separating horses from each other. For instance, a solid stall guard can be used in a stock trailer to separate a mother from her foal while traveling.

Even though the optics of both is the same, the luminance of the lunar rainbow is much lower. As a result of the eye’s reduced sensitivity to color at low light levels, the bow may exhibit little color. There are several reasons why the lunar rainbow is seen much less frequently than the solar bow. While the moon and sun spend equal time above the horizon, when they are both present, only a solar bow can be seen. This, by itself, means that the lunar rainbow could form only half as often. Further, the moon goes through phases, and so even at night may not contribute enough light to produce a discernible bow. Finally, the convective showers in which the rainbow is frequently seen are much less common at night.

The ceinture fléchée, or arrowhead sash, was one of the famous badges of the voyageur. The ceinture fléchée had many uses. It was used for warmth, as a tump line and a support on the portage, as an emergency rope, and as a mark of distinction and origin. When tightly woven and treated with beeswax, it could even be used as a cup. Originally, ceintures fléchées were woven by hand using a technique called "finger weaving". Later, sashes, were machine loomed in England for the Canadian mass market. The term "fléchée" refers specifically to the original arrowhead design, but there were many other patterns. The chevron, the "flammes"(flames), the "éclairs"(ligtening bolts), the "W"(double chevron), and the "tête de flèche"(large two-tone arrowhead) were also used. "Flaunt" means to "show something off proudly or boastfully" :"The drum corps proudly flaunts its colors. ""Flout" means to "show scorn or contempt for a person or thing" :"The speeding driver flouts the law. "

Confusion of these terms is distressingly common. "Flout" means "to contravene or disregard; to treat with contempt." "Flaunt" means "to show off or parade (something) in an ostentatious manner," but is often incorrectly used for "flout", perhaps because it is misunderstood as a telescoped version of "flout" and "taunt".

OBS

The use of "flaunt" to mean "to ignore or treat with disdain" is strongly objected by many usage guides, which insist that only "flout" can properly express this meaning ... many regard the senses of "flaunt" and "flout" as entirely unrelated and concerned speakers and writers still continue to keep them separate.
