Basic system operation and performance allow for the processing of contaminated JP-5 fuel that consists of any combination of particulates, water, and aviation fuel. Contaminated fuel is loaded into the process tank via a defueler truck used to collect the segregated JP-5 from squadron hazardous waste storage sites. The fuel is circulated at 15 gpm through the system until it is determined to be visually clean via a sampling port. A gravity drain valve allows for the discharge of wastewater stripped from the fuel during circulation. Depending on the level of particulate contamination, the fuel may be considered clean(less than 2mg/1 particulates, less than 5ppm free water) after one pass through the system or several. A sample of the fuel is then sent to the laboratory for further testing, especially with respect to the flash point. Cost-effective open-plan environments(COPE)-a new research initiative. Many organizations believe that reducing office space is a great way to save money. But putting more people in the same area can lead to poorer indoor air quality, lower lighting levels, higher noise levels and increased fire hazards. These negative impacts can result in lower levels of employee satisfaction, more absenteeism, decreased productivity, and higher costs. IRC [Institut de recherche en construction) aims to fill that gap with a new research initiative-COPE. The multidisciplinary COPE team will conduct innovative research using sophisticated computer models, laboratory facilities and field studies. Pourtant, en rassemblant plus de gens au même endroit, on risque de nuire à la qualité de l'air intérieur et de l'éclairage, d'élever le niveau de bruit et de multiplier les risques d'incendie, ce qui entraîne les conséquences suivantes : diminution du niveau de satisfaction des employés, augmentation du taux d'absentéisme, ralentissement de la production et hausse des coûts. L'IRC (Institut de recherche en construction) vient de lancer une nouvelle initiative qui pourrait bien permettre de le trouver, ce moyen. Le projet AOR regroupe une équipe multidisciplinaire qui effectuera de la recherche innovatrice en recourant à des modèles informatiques sophistiqués, à des installations de laboratoire de pointe et à des études sur le terrain.
