Situated in the heart of the nation's capital across Confederation Square from Parliament Hill, the [National Arts] Centre is among the largest performing arts complexes in Canada. It is unique as the only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre in North America and features one of the largest stages on the continent. Officially opened on June 2, 1969, the National Arts Centre was one of the key institutions created by Prime Minister Lester B. The [MRPMAC] has a long history of service to the community, including delivering arts programs in partnership with the MRPM Parks and Leisure Services Commission since the 1990's. In 2003 the MRPMAC [Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows] undertook the management of The Maple Ridge ACT Arts Centre and Theatre, and began its role as the key presenter in the region bringing a wide variety of performing artists for all ages to perform at The ACT. The Confederation Centre of the Arts was founded in 1964 as Canada's National Memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, who gathered at Province House in 1864 to discuss the creation of our country. Covering an entire city block, the Centre stands on what was the site of the old Charlottetown marketplace. It houses several theatres, an art gallery, restaurants, and a gift shop. Le Centre des arts de la Confédération a été fondé en 1964 en tant que monument national du Canada en mémoire des Pères de la Confédération qui se sont réunis à Province House en 1864 pour discuter de la création de notre pays. The Eastern Ontario Drama League(EODL, or the League) fosters development and interest in the performing arts. It serves as a resource centre for theatre activities in Eastern Ontario, and provides community theatre groups with a communications medium throughout the province. The League promotes artistic and technical standards, and encourages education in theatre arts.
