A line used to indicate the direction of a field, especially an electric or magnetic field, at various points in space. The tangent of a line of force at each point indicates the orientation of the field at that point. Arrows are usually used to indicate the direction of the force.

A field line is a locus that is defined by a vector field and a starting location within the field. A vector field defines a direction at all points in space; a field line may be constructed by tracing a path in the direction of the vector field. More precisely, the tangent line to the path at each point is required to be parallel to the vector field at that point. Field lines are useful for visualizing vector fields, which consist of a separate individual vector for every location in space. If the vector field describes a velocity field, then the field lines follow stream lines in the flow. Perhaps the most familiar example of a vector field described by field lines is the magnetic field, which is often depicted using field lines emanating from a magnet.

La Banque canadienne de clones fait partie du Système canadien de conservation du patrimoine phytogénétique. La Banque canadienne de clones préserve la diversité génétique des cultures fruitières du Canada par l'acquisition, l'évaluation et le maintien de matériel génétique d'espèces sauvages et de cultivars nommés. Les obtentions d'arbres fruitiers et de petits fruits sont conservées dans une collection permanente, dans des plantations au champ et des cultures protégées. La Banque assurera la disponibilité continue d'un réservoir de gènes précieux pouvant être utilisés pour la sélection végétale.

A family of motors in which a permanent magnet replaces the stator winding.

In some small PM DC motors, the rotor is still fed by a conventional brush-and-commutator system. A more important type of PM motor has a stator with three windings producing a rotating field, as in induction and synchronous motors. The rotor consists of one or more permanent magnets that interact with the rotating field so as to align the poles in the rotor with the poles of the rotating field. The speed of the motor is the speed of the rotating field. Because there is no rotor current and the rotor magnetic field is constant, there are no losses in the rotor, helping to make PM motors more efficient... that induction motors.
