In August, 2007, the Settlement Workers in Schools(SWIS) program sponsored a pilot project to prepare newly arrived youth for entry to eight(8) high schools in Ontario. Called Newcomer Orientation Week or NOW, this intensive orientation initiative was piloted in six(6) high schools in Toronto, one(1) in Peel Region and one(1) in Hamilton. The NOW program was strategically positioned to occur just prior to the beginning of the school year. In NOW, former newcomer students are trained to lead the activities with the newly arrived students. The overall concept of NOW is that newcomer youth begin to feel more comfortable in the school setting and, if they run into difficulties, know how to get support-from PLs, teachers and/or SWIS workers. En 2007, le projet SONA a été mis à l’essai dans huit écoles secondaires de l’Ontario pour fournir une orientation aux élèves du secondaire nouvellement arrivés au Canada dès leur arrivée au pays. La Semaine d’orientation des nouveaux arrivants (SONA) permet de présenter l’école et la collectivité aux élèves qui sont des nouveaux arrivants pendant la dernière semaine d’août avant la rentrée des classes. Cette séance est présentée par des jeunes qui ont été des nouveaux arrivants (des « peer leaders ») et animée par les TEE (Travailleurs de l'établissement dans les écoles) et les enseignants. The Adult Injury Management Network(AIMNet) at the University of Victoria has an established track record in the area of fall and fall-related injury prevention among older people. AIMNet is recognized as a national leader in the field of injury prevention. Partners : British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit at the Centre for Community Health & Health Evaluation Research(Children's & Women's Health Centre of B. C.), the Institute on Health of the Elderly(University of Ottawa) and the School of Nutrition & Dietetics(Acadia University). The goal of this project is to reduce falls and fall-related injuries among residents of long-term care facilities in several pilot sites across Canada. The proposed model focuses on the determinants of health that put residents of care facilities at greatest risk of sustaining a fall and related injuries. Through the creation of networks of support and information, this project aims to strengthen the capacities of both the residents of these facilities and those who care for them. Le Réseau de gestion des traumatismes chez les adultes (RGTA) à l'Université de Victoria, est bien connu pour ses activités de prévention des chutes et des blessures liées aux chutes chez les aînés. Le RGTA est considéré comme un chef de file à l'échelle nationale dans le domaine de la prévention des blessures. Partenaires : La British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit, au Centre for Community Health & Health Evaluation Research (Children's & Women's Health Centre of B.C.), l'Institute on Health of the Elderly (Université d'Ottawa) et la School of Nutrition & Dietetics (Université Acadia) Ce projet vise à réduire les chutes et les blessures liées aux chutes chez les résidents des établissements de soins de longue durée dans plusieurs régions pilotes du Canada. Le modèle proposé met l'accent sur les déterminants de la santé qui exposent les résidents des établissements de soins à un risque plus grand de chutes et de blessures connexes. Grâce à l'établissement de réseaux de soutien et d'information, ce projet permet de renforcer les capacités des résidents de ces établissements et des personnes qui les soignent. The Rockcliffe Flying Club is a Transport Canada approved Flight Training School. Our ground and air instruction syllabus includes training towards the Recreational Pilot Permit, Private and Commercial Pilot Licenses, the Night Rating, VFR OTT as well as Instructor and Instrument Ratings. The size of our school ensures that a flight training program can be tailored to meet the requirements of the individual student. The Rockcliffe Flying Club is a non-profit flying club based at Ottawa/Rockcliffe Airport in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. After the Royal Canadian Air Force ceased most operations at the field in 1964, the flying club began using it for aircraft rental and flight training. Currently, the club operates the airfield and its one remaining runway on behalf of the Canada Aviation Museum, which shares the field. Manitoba Telephone System(MTS) is partnering with the Evergreen School Division and Reston Collegiate Institute to support the Manitoba using Interactive(response) Technlogy(MANIT) pilot project. Manit will explore how Interactive Response software and wireless keypad Technology(IRT) can benefit teaching and learning. IRT supports enhanced communication between students and teachers providing a shared learning experience incorporating many of the advantages of one-on-one tutoring in a multi-student environment. Le projet MANIT permettra de faire ressortir les moyens d'utiliser les logiciels conversationnels et la technologie du clavier numérique sans fil à l'avantage de l'enseignement et de l'apprentissage.
