Most major property owners know of corrective measures for isolated problems, but none has an integrated, comprehensive solution to address the needs for maintaining an asset efficiently and cost-effectively over its service life. The National Technology Index(NTI) is a newly-approved pilot project of Strategis, Industry Canada's business information World Wide Web service, to assist provincial and federal laboratories, universities and centres of excellence to market their technology commercialization opportunities. It has been developed with the technical assistance of the Canadian Institute for Scientific and Technical Information(CISTI) and is a joint initiative between Industry Canada product line managers for the Canadian Technology Gateway, Trans-Forum, and dISTCovery, as well as the Waterloo Innovation Centre. The NTI has been designed to replace traditional high-maintenance databases with a powerful distributed search engine capable of scanning and retrieving technology opportunity documents located at sites across the World Wide Web.
