A steam trap with a thermally actuated device used to expand and close the discharge port when steam flows through it, and to contract and allow steam condensate to flow through when the temperature of the fluid drops to a predetermined value.

The discharge from this type of trap is intermittent. Thermostatic traps are used to drain condensate from radiators, convectors, steam heating coils, unit heaters and other similar equipment.... Une polysulfone domine largement les autres : [...] d'où le nom de polyéthers sulfones quelquefois donné à ces composés. La préparation la plus courante consiste à polycondenser le bisphénolate de sodium avec la p,p'-dichlorodiphénylsulfone. Les polysulfones sont des thermoplastiques possédant de très bonnes propriétés mécaniques (ténacité, rigidité, tenue au fluage), encore améliorées par additions de charges (fibres de verre ou de carbone), et peuvent être employées en continu entre -70 et 180 °C. Leurs résistances au choc, au feu, leurs propriétés électriques sont très bonnes. Elles ont une bonne résistance chimique, mais se dissolvent dans un certain nombre de solvants polaires. Les polysulfones sont mises en forme par injection et par extrusion. Les plaques peuvent être usinées, soudées, décorées, métallisées sous vide.

[Hot water heating systems. ] Two-pipe systems. For large installations the supply of hot water needs to be kept separate from that water which has been cooled by passing through a convector. To accomplish this, one pipe is used to supply the hot water, which then empties into another pipe used for return. This type of system provides the water at as high a temperature as possible.

The technique used in the operation of a wood-fired appliance can have an effect on its efficiency in converting fuelwood into useful heat.... A flue pipe thermometer is a handy device for monitoring the performance of your appliance. Look for the type with a metal probe for insertion into the pipe rather than the magnetic kind. Locate it between 30 cm and 60 cm above the appliance flue collar. For optimum performance the flue temperature should not exceed 330 °C(600°F) or fall below 110 °C(200 °F) during normal operation.
