[The module of an Intelligent Tutoring System] that models the student’s understanding of the domain.

Student Model Module. The task of this building block is to construct a student model which represents student's knowledge. It is essentially an inductive inference which induces a model from observed data. In ITS [Intelligent Tutoring Systems], the model should be an executable program described in a knowledge representation language and the data are student's answers to the problems.

The Student Module analyzes the student’s answers, diagnosis the misconceptions and keeps track of the information on the student’s mastery of the knowledge. The student modeler of XTRA-TE is aimed at both behavioral diagnosis and epistemic diagnosis. At the behavioral level, the student receives direct feedback from the system. The student’s response is checked against the domain knowledge for correctness.

The Block Shipping system is the method used to plan and co-ordinate the weekly movement of grain from prairie elevators to export terminals and to mills and maltsters within Western Canada. The main objective of the system is to support Canada's grain marketing program by ensuring that the right kinds of grain, in the required quantities, are moved into forward positions as efficiently as possible. In achieving this objective, the Wheat Board also must ensure that all farmers in Western Canada are given equitable delivery opportunities.

A group of La Grange residents, in cooperation with the Village and several local lending institutions, set up this program to help moderate and low income families build houses on vacant lots on the East side. Several programs have been developed for the adjustment of aerotriangulation measurements. Programs which adjust the entire block of photographs simultaneously are more rigourous & provide greater accuracy than programs using approximate or sequential methods.
