A virtual reality scene may be presented by a variety of immersive user interfaces.... the immersive user interface may include goggles, glasses or another head-mounted device that is configured to present the virtual reality scene to the user. In order to enhance the immersion of the user in the virtual reality scene, the immersive user interface may be configured to limit or prevent the view by the user of the real world, such as by limiting or preventing a user's peripheral view of the real world. In order to increase the pervasiveness of the user's immersive experience, the immersive user interface may be configured to not only visually present the virtual reality scene, but also to concurrently provide audio signals, such as spatial audio signals, that were recorded and are associated with the virtual reality scene.

For applications such as cartography, where it is important to precisely locate the correct position of features such as roads and boundaries, it has been difficult or impossible to evaluate the relative performance of different sensors through the standard specifications of IFOV [Instantaneous Field of View] or spatial resolution. In an effort to overcome this difficulty, a second concept... labeled spatial effective resolution element(SERE), is evolving. Although this concept is not fully developed, it provides an indication of the factors to be taken into account when attempting to correlate different systems. These factors include : surface area on the Earth, or its equivalent on the image plane, the IFOV and the spread function resulting from optical diffraction and aberrations as well as electronic lag or smear. Essentially, the concept of SERE is an attempt to determine the IFOV of the hypothetical, unsampled(ideal) scanning system which would yield performance equivalent to that of any given real sensor system. Whether such an equivalence exists is yet to be determined.

Overview of resampling methods. From the perspective of space, a satellite camera or sensor takes images that provide unique Earth information at scales ranging from very small to very large. To better understand an image, its shape, scale and perspective often are changed by rectification, orthorectification or map projection to relate it to real world coordinates. During that process, however, gaps between pixels may form, requiring that images be resampled to fill in those missing pixels. There are basically 3 methods of resampling : nearest neighbor, bilinear interpolation and cubic convolution.

This paper presents a simple and effective method for matching two uncalibrated images. Corner points are firstly extracted as interest points in the two images. Each interest point is assigned one dominant orientation. The initial set of point matches is then obtained by singular value decomposition of a correspondence strength matrix. A new expression of this matrix is introduced to handle more complicated imaging conditions. Each element of this matrix is the similarity measure between two interest points. The new similarity measure is invariant to image rotation by taking into account the dominant orientation of the two interest points. The epipolar geometry constraint is finally imposed to reject the false matches. Experimental results on real images show this approach to be effective for general image matching.

A radar pulse is transmitted from the antenna to the ground. The radar pulse is scattered by the ground targets back to the antenna.

In synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imaging, microwave pulses are transmitted by an antenna towards the Earth surface. The microwave energy scattered back to the spacecraft is measured. The SAR makes use of the radar principle to form an image by utilising the time delay of the backscattered signals. In real aperture radar imaging, the groud resolution is limited by the size of the microwave beam sent out from the antenna. Finer details on the ground can be resolved by using a narrower beam. The beam width is inversely proportional to the size of the antenna, i. e. the longer the antenna, the narrower the beam.

La génération d'une image SAR nécessite la combinaison de deux mécanismes de balayage. Tout d'abord un balayage latéral. Chaque impulsion se propopage à une vitesse égale à celle de la lumière (c = 3.108 m.s-1) selon la direction de visée du satellite (across track), l'écho reçu au niveau de l'antenne est ensuite échantillonné à la fréquence fe (18.96 Mhz pour ERS-1). Simultanément, la scène est balayée dans le sens de déplacement du satellite (along track) à la fréquence d'émission des impulsions notée fp ou PRD (Pulse Rate Frequency) : (entre 1640 et 1720 Hz, par pas de 2 Hz dans le cas d'ERS-1). Les échelles de grandeur des divers mécanismes mis en jeux étant différentes, nous pouvons les supposer indépendants entre eux. Le signal reçu peut être ainsi organisé dans une matrice bi-dimensionnelle, où les paramètres de temps et de distance sont représentés respectivement en ligne par le cadencement des impulsions (PRF) et en colonne par la position des échos sur la ligne, une ligne étant acquise à chaque émission d'une impulsion radar (ou pulse). Une colonne de l'image représentera l'ensemble des réponses des réflecteurs placés à une distance donnée de l'antenne (distance radiale). Sa position sur la ligne est linéairement liée au temps mis par l'onde radar à lui revenir après s'être réfléchie sur le point cible, le radar étant considéré immobile durant ce temps.

In the Meteorological Products Extraction Facility(MPEF) meteorological products are operationally extracted from METEOSAT image data for use in forecasting and research work. The extraction is performed in an automatic processing scheme and includes an automatic quality control step as an integral part of the processing. The products are produced in near real time on a networked system of HP Apollo workstations running proprietary software. The system runs in "chains" where two workstations operate together to produce all products. Due to the CPU load required to produce the wind products, the processing is partitioned such that these products are generated on one of the chain processors, whilst the remaining products are derived on the other chain processor.

Single-frame capture boards enable you to freeze a selected frame and record it to your hard disk. In this function, single-frame boards are similar to scanners-they provide a means of capturing an image and saving it for use in a multimedia title.... They are stored as highly compressed data files produced using fractal image compression. Fractal image compression involves three basic mathematical modeling problems. The required models are [:] a mathematical model for real world image, a model for approximating model images by means of resolution independent image approximants, which must be described by finite data strings, and a computationally tractable model for the sources of the data strings, to enable the application of information theory to provide efficient representation of the image approximants.

Since the suffix "er" means "one that does or performs"(Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, 1989), a "bottom-fisher" does fishing at or near the bottom of the sea or river(bottom-fishing). In the field of real estate, "bottom-fisher" is used in a figurative sense to convey the image of a person fishing for bargains near the bottom of the market.
