Door bottoms. The gap below doors is one of the worst draft areas in many houses. There are several types of weatherstripping for the bottom of a door.

The term "door bottom" is used to designate two concepts. In a broad sense, it is used to describe a type or class of weatherstripping used to seal the gap at the bottom of a door and includes weatherstripping attached to the floor or threshold as well as weatherstripping affixed to the bottom of the door itself(i. e., full threshold weatherstripping, partial threshold weatherstripping, door bottoms and door sweeps). In a narrower sense, "door bottom" designates one type of weatherstripping that is fixed to the bottom of the door and covers the entire thickness of the door(as opposed to a door sweep, which is attached on the exterior side of the door only).

The boxcar has a doorway on each side at the centre of the car; the doorways are approximately 1. 8 metres wide and cover the full height of the box. Before loading, the doorways are covered to the height the grain will be loaded by applying a cardboard or wooden lining(called a grain door) across the door opening and inside the permanent car door. The cardboard or wooden liners are supplied at loading stations by the railways and are applied by elevator company personnel. This procedure is known as coopering.

Exterior hoods are suction openings located adjacent to open sources of contamination. This type of hood removes contaminants by creating controlled air currents that capture and draw the contaminants into the duct system. The shape and size of the capture zone (the area into which contaminants are drawn) is determined by the design of the hood and the rate of airflow. Examples of these hoods include side draft hoods, slot hoods, downdraft hoods and exhaust ducts located close to the source.

An enclosed finishing vat for cheesemaking(Cheddar, Colby or stirred-curd types) has a generally flat bottom with longitudinal trough for whey drainage; an oval side wall and a dome-shaped top which overlaps the sides. A reciprocating agitator unit mounted above the vat is fitted with both stirring and unloading paddles. Curd and whey are passed into the vat through an inlet in the top and whey drains into a tank situated at the lower end of the vat, with a screen to prevent curd from entering the tank. A curd discharge outlet with movable door is situated in the bottom wall of the tank, directly above a curd hopper fitted with a conveyor for moving curd to a collection area. Iron and Brass work. The over-lapping doors of early buffets and armoires required a special type of hinge called a fische hinge(fiche). The pivot or pins of these hinges were made of cast iron and had wrought-iron tenons wrapped around them while red hot. The tenon of the upper part was fitted into a mortise on the side of the door while the tenon of the lower part was mortised into the side-posts of the furniture. The tips of the pins were shaped like balusters, or urns.
