A column drier is equipped with one or more unobstructed columns through which grain falls by gravity. The columns are about 30 centimetres apart and are sheathed on either side by perforated screens or wire mesh which retain the grain but permit passage of air. On one side of each column, space is allowed for air entry and on the other side, air is discharged. Hot air passes across the column at the top of the drier, drying grain as it falls. In a similar manner, cool air passes across the bottom of the column to cool the grain. Le séchoir à colonne est constitué d'une ou deux colonnes vides dans lesquelles le grain tombe en chute libre. Ces colonnes sont espacées d'environ 30 centimètres et entourées par des trémies perforés ou des treillis métalliques qui, tout en retenant le grain, laissent passer l'air. L'air entre par un côté de la colonne et sort par le côté opposé. L'air chaud traverse la partie supérieure de la colonne du séchoir et sèche le grain pendant sa descente. L'air frais, à la partie inférieure, effectue le même parcours pour refroidir le grain. The Bragg Crystal Spectrometer(BCS) is designed to study plasma heating and dynamics during the impulsive phase of solar flares. It consists of two bent crystal spectrometers, BCS-A and BCS-B, that observe the H-like line complex of Fe XXVI, and He-like complexes of Fe XXV, Ca XIX and S XV. Each spectrometer consists of a double detector placed behind a pair of germanium crystals that diffract the incoming X-rays into the detectors. The two structures are mounted at the front of the Yohkoh spacecraft, on either side of the central panel, with a thermal filter mounted in front of each spectrometer. Advanced Gradient Heating Facility(AGHF)... The AGHF supports the production of advanced semiconductor materials and alloys using the directional solidification process, which depends on establishing a hot side and a cold side in the sample(a temperature gradient). It provides an extremely stable temperature environment of up to 1, 400°C, high-temperature gradients of up to 100°C/cm in the solidification zone, slow movement of the gradient across a sample to provide slow growth rates, efficient cooling through the use of a liquid metal cooling ring attached to the sample container, and Peltier pulse marking capability. The AGHF consists of three modules mounted in one side of a Spacelab double rack : the Core Facility Module contains the processing chamber with the furnace inside; the Electronics Module contains the controls and equipment necessary to operate the furnace; and the Gas Storage Module contains argon for chamber repressurization and sample cooling.  2, fiche 6, Anglais, - advanced%20gradient%20heating%20facility

An enclosed finishing vat for cheesemaking(Cheddar, Colby or stirred-curd types) has a generally flat bottom with longitudinal trough for whey drainage; an oval side wall and a dome-shaped top which overlaps the sides. A reciprocating agitator unit mounted above the vat is fitted with both stirring and unloading paddles. Curd and whey are passed into the vat through an inlet in the top and whey drains into a tank situated at the lower end of the vat, with a screen to prevent curd from entering the tank. A curd discharge outlet with movable door is situated in the bottom wall of the tank, directly above a curd hopper fitted with a conveyor for moving curd to a collection area.
