La partie se dispute entre deux équipes de sept joueurs (dont un gardien de but) portant des bonnets numérotés de couleur blanche ou bleue. Quatre remplaçants sont autorisés à entrer en jeu après qu'un but a été marqué et après chaque période de jeu. La profondeur minimale est de 1,80 m. Le but a une largeur de 3 m et une hauteur de 0,90 m au-dessus de l'eau. Le ballon doit avoir une circonférence de 0,68 m à 0,71 m, un poids de 400 à 450 g. A base runner may steal a base when the batter does not hit the ball. He does this by running with the pitch - that is, as the pitcher is throwing the ball. He must get to the next base before the ball is thrown there and he is tagged.
