The serve is an important element of Olympic table tennis and the same is true of the Paralympic version. Under Olympic rules, the ball must be placed in the open palm of the hand, thrown at least 16 cm into the air perpendicular to the table, and struck. In paralympic table tennis, where this is not possible, the ball may be tossed by placing it on the elbow or on the racket.

Table tennis ... has been part of the Paralympic programme since the first Games at Rome 1960 when wheelchair athletes competed. Events for standing players were first included at the Toronto 1976 Games. Table tennis only became an Olympic sport at Seoul 1988, so the Paralympic equivalent has a longer history.

Running safely to the next base without the help of a hit, a foul throw or a passed ball.

A base runner may steal a base when the batter does not hit the ball. He does this by running with the pitch-that is, as the pitcher is throwing the ball. He must get to the next base before the ball is thrown there and he is tagged.

The roll-out, or running, pass is usually a short pass-five or six yards-and can be «thrown» into the flat easily. It is usually a true option run-pass which helps offset a strong pass rush from the inside. Although it doesn’t take a great passer to execute this play, the roll-out pass does require a considerable amount of time and practice to perfect. The quarterback sprints out at controlled speed, while holding the ball in a «ready position» and looks immediately to the area he is running toward.

Dans le cas d'une passe à droite, avec le pied droit, le joueur exécute un pas de biais vers l'arrière et court vers la droite. Et vice-versa dans le cas d'une passe à gauche. Rapidement, il repère ses receveurs. Le lancer s'amorce alors que le pied correspondant ou bras lanceur frappe le sol. Il pivote les épaules en lançant le ballon.

OBS

Le quart-arrière a toujours l'option de courir avec le ballon si la défensive a beaucoup reculé pour la couverture de passe. L'action vers l'extérieur, le «roll-out pass», est utilisé seulement si une passe est effectuée, c'est pourquoi souvent on utilise «sprint-out» indépendamment s'il y a passe ou non car «roll-out pass» exige que le jeu soit à sa fin. En français, on utilise "passe hors l'aile" car ce jeu préconise une passe. Le quart peut couvrir mais ne le fera que si la couverture de passe défensive est bonne.

A form of softball for men and women with 10 players on the defensive team : 3 in the field, 3 on the bases, a pitcher, a shortstop, a catcher and a roover who is allowed to move anywhere though he usually plays in the area where the infield and the outfield meet. The game gets its name from the fact that the ball must be thrown 6 feet in the air by the pitcher; any ball so pitched without an attempt to strike it puts the batter out automatically. If pitched less than 6 feet high, it is declared "ball" by the referee; it takes 4 balls for a base on balls. Stolen bases on passed balls or otherwise are not permitted; the ball must be struck before a player on a base is allowed to run. The home plate is 18 inches by 4 feet.

Une variante du softball pour hommes et femmes avec 10 joueurs sur l'équipe défensive : 3 au champ, 3 sur les buts, un lanceur, un arrêt court, un receveur et un «rover» qui peut jouer n'importe où sur le terrain mais qui se cantonne habituellement à la limite des champs intérieur et extérieur. Le jeu tient son nom du fait qu'à chaque lancer, la balle doit monter 6 pieds dans les airs. Un frappeur est automatiquement retiré sur un lancer atteignant cette hauteur et qu'il n'essaie pas de frapper. Tout lancer n'atteignant pas le 6 pieds réglementaire est déclaré «balle» par l'arbitre. Il faut 4 balles pour un but sur balles. Le vol de but n'existe pas : un coureur ne peut voler un but sur une balle passée ni s'éloigner d'un coussin; il doit attendre que la balle soit frappée pour se mettre à courir. Le marbre est de 18 pouces sur 4 pieds.
