A reusable free-flying vehicle built by Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm which can be deployed and retrieved by the Space Shuttle's Remote Manipulator System(RMS). The original SPAS, with materials processing and SDI("Star Wars")-related sensor payloads, was carried on three missions but not deployed on the second of these because of an electrical problem with the RMS. ORFEUS(Orbiting and Retrievable Far and Extreme Ultraviolet Spectrometer), was a German astronomical payload that flew twice aboard SPAS. The World Meteorological Organization's(WMO) Global Atmosphere Watch Programme(GAW) has been established to provide information on changes in the chemical composition and related physical characteristics of the atmosphere to improve understanding and to predict future states of the earth's system on a global and regional basis. The Very High Resolution Spectrometer. The 6. 65 m off-plane Eagle spectrometer connected to the Synchrotron Ultraviolet Radiation Facility(SURF II) electron storage ring at the National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) is one of the two very high resolution spectrometers(VHRS) in the world that combine a synchrotron radiation light source with photoelectric detection of vacuum ultraviolet spectra. Spectra are obtained over a usable range from approximately 20 nm to 200 nm by scanning the exit slit of the spectrometer at wavelength intervals as small as 0. 1 pm in first order. The beamline leading to the entrance slit of the VHRS includes three cylindrical uncoated glass mirrors with incident angles of 80, 70, and 80 degrees from the normal to provide a converging beam to match the f/number of the instrument which is about f/50. The enzyme lactate dehydrogenase,... transfers electrons from lactate to the oxidized form of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD⁺, to yield pyruvate, the reduced coenzyme NADH, and a proton.... The reduced form of the coenzyme, NADH, absorbs light in the ultraviolet at 340 nm; whereas the oxidized form NAD⁺, the lactate, and the pyruvate do not.
