Havana Charter was the charter of the defunct International Trade Organization(ITO). It was signed by 53 countries on March 24, 1948. It allowed for international cooperation and rules against anti-competitive business practices. The charter ultimately failed because the Congress of the United States rejected it. Elements of it would later become part of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade(GATT). The charter, proposed by John Maynard Keynes, was to establish the ITO and a financial institution called the International Clearing Union(ICU), and an international currency; the bancor. The Havana Charter institutions were to stabilize trade by encouraging nations to "net zero", with trade surplus and trade deficit both discouraged. This negative feedback was to be accomplished by allowing nations overdraft equal to half the average value of the country's trade over the preceding five years, with interest charged on both surplus and deficit.

C'est donc plus qu'un accord puisqu'il se serait révélé à travers une véritable organisation. Cette charte est signée le 24 mars 1948 mais elle n'est pas ratifiée par le congrès américain (changement de majorité entre temps). Néanmoins les négociations continuent en particulier sur ce qui avait été prévu par la charte de La Havane en voulant appliquer provisoirement le GATT (accords général sur les tarifs douaniers et le commerce). Le GATT avait été signé en 1947, et prévoyait, en attendant la validation de la charte de La Havane, d'être appliqué. Cette charte abandonnée sera remplacée par la création de l'OMC (Organisation mondiale du commerce).

The Organization of American States(OAS) is the world's oldest regional organization, dating back to the First International Conference of American States, held in Washington, D. C., from October 1889 to April, 1890. This meeting approved the establishment of the International Union of American Republics. The Charter of the OAS was signed in Bogota in 1948 and entered into force in December 1951. The Charter was subsequently amended by the Protocol of Buenos Aires signed in 1967, which entered into force in February 1970, and by the Protocol of Cartegena de Indias, signed in 1985, which entered into force in November 1988. In 1992, the Protocol of Washington was signed and in 1993 the Protocol of Managua entered into force on January 29, 1996. The OAS currently has 35 Member States. In addition, the Organization has granted Permanent Observer status to 37 States, as well as the European Union.

The World Festival of Youth and Students is an international event, organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth(WFDY), a left-wing yough organization, jointly with the International Union of Students since 1947. The largest festival was the 6th, held in 1957 in Moscow, when 34, 000 young people from 131 countries attended the event. This festival also marked the international debut of the song "Moscow Nights", which subsequently went on to become perhaps the most widely recognized Russian song in the world. During the Cold War many festivals were held in capitals of Communist states because of the enormous expenditure and coordination required to support a youth festival. As a result, by the 1960s the festival' s were accused of being a powerful tool of Communist propaganda, a claim that has diminished with the festival' s continuing after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Council of Foreign Ministers was an organisation agreed upon at the Potsdam Conference in 1945. The Potsdam Agreement specified that the Council would be composed of the Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, China, France, and the United States. It would normally meet in London and the first meeting was to take place no later than 1 September 1945. As the immediate important task, the Council was authorised to draw up were treaties of peace with Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Finland, and to propose settlements of territorial questions outstanding on the termination of the war in Europe. Also the Council should prepare a peace settlement for Germany to be accepted by Germany when a "government adequate for the purpose is established".

The Marshall Plan, known officially following its enactment as the European Recovery Program(ERP), was the primary plan of the United States to promote the recovery of Europe and to advance American foreign and domestic economic policies after World War II. The initiative was named for United States Secretary of State George Marshall and was largely the creation of State Department officials, especially William L. Clayton and George F. Kennan. The reconstruction plan was developed at a meeting of the participating European States in July 1947. The Soviet Union and the states of Eastern Europe were invited, but Stalin saw the plan as a threat and did not allow the participation of any countries under Soviet control. The plan was in operation for four fiscal years beginning in July 1947.

L'initiative fut baptisée, par les journalistes, du nom du secrétaire d'État américain, le général George Marshall, qui, lors d'un discours à l'université Harvard (5 juin 1947) exposa la volonté du gouvernement des États-Unis de contribuer au rétablissement de l'Europe. Le Président Harry Truman signe le plan Marshall le 3 avril 1948.

The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty(or ABM Treaty) was a treaty between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the limitation of the anti-ballistic missile(ABM) systems used in defending areas against missile-delivered nuclear weapons. On May 26, 1972, the President of the United States, Richard Nixon and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. The treaty was in force for thirty years, from 1972 until 2002. On June 13, 2002, six months after giving the required notice of intent, the US withdrew from the treaty.

COMSAT, or the Communications Satellite Corporation, was created in 1962 with the passage of the Communications Satellite Act. The act authorized the formation of a private corporation to administer satellite communications for the United States. COMSAT was given responsability for many activities including the development of a global satellite communications system, the acquisition and maintenance of ground stations around the world, and the development of new satellite technologies. COMSAT is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the company's shareholders and the president of the United States. Half of the company's shares are owned by major companies such as AT and T, ITT, and Western Union, and the rest are held by members of the public. COMSAT has offices worldwide and its headquarters are located in Washington, D. C.
