Au temps où la gare Union d'Ottawa servait de gare ferroviaire, il n'y avait pas de rue suffisamment large y menant pour être qualifiée de «boulevard»; la désignation demeure un qualificatif. L'entrée principale, rue Rideau, n'étant pas munie d'un débarcadère, les voyageurs accédaient au quai de la gare par l'entrée latérale donnant sur la salle des pas perdus. D'un côté, on y arrivait par la Petite rue Sussex (Little Sussex Street), le prolongement de la rue Sussex (Sussex Street) du temps, maintenant la promenade Sussex (Sussex Parkway). De l'autre, c'est la rue Besserer qui y menait; côté sud de la rue, on y retrouvait, dans l'ordre, le bureau de poste, les hangars pour le dépôt et la livraison du fret ferroviaire et l'entrée latérale de la gare avec débarcadère pour les voitures taxis. Le centre de ce rond-point servait à garer les voitures, tant au temps des chevaux qu'à l'ère des automobiles. Depuis que la gare Union est devenue le Centre des conférences du gouvernement, le nouvel aménagement a vu la disparition de toutes ces réalités du passé, y compris les constructions attenantes. Aménagée sur l'emplacement du réseau de voies ferrées partant de la gare, l'actuelle promenade le long du canal Rideau mériterait le titre de boulevard bien que n'ayant pas d'îlot central.  2, fiche 8, Français, - boulevard%20de%20la%20gare
