A steam trap with a thermally actuated device used to expand and close the discharge port when steam flows through it, and to contract and allow steam condensate to flow through when the temperature of the fluid drops to a predetermined value.

The fire extinguishing equipment for an airliner such as the Douglas DC-10 incorporates three systems with six pressurized agent containers, two for each engine. The containers for the wing-mounted engines are located in pairs in the leading edge of the wing between the nacelle and the fuselage on each side of the aircraft.... The discharge cartridge is an electrically fired explosive unit that provides force to rupture the disk seal in the outlet port of the container and release the extinguishing agent to the deployment lines. One discharge cartridge is installed on each wing-mounted container and two are installed on the aft-engine container. The discharge cartridge contains two squibs(explosive charges) that are fired by an electric circuit that heats the powder to the ignition point. When the fire extinguisher control handle is pulled down, the electric circuit is closed and the squibs are fired. The force of the explosion ruptures the disk seal, thus releasing the extinguishing agent. A screen in the discharge head prevents particles of the disk from entering the deployment line.

The commercially-available sling pump consists of a helically-wound hose within a drum-shapedbody that has a propeller at the front. A swivel coupling at the front end of the pump allows the body of the pump to rotate freely without affecting the discharge pipe. Water flowing past the propeller at the front of the unit sets the entire body of the pump in a slow rotational motion. Alternating slugs of air and water enter the intake of the spiral hose and are forced along the pipe by the rotational motion of the pump. The sling pump can also be powered by the wind, instead of flowing water. Because the swivel coupling is the only mechanical component comprising the pump, it is virtually maintenance-free.

The Plasma Contactor Unit discharges accumulated electrons(using a hollow cathode assembly that is provided as furnished equipment) from the International Space Station structure reducing the potential difference between the Station structure and the surrounding charged plasma environment. This reduction in potential eliminates arcing, thus preserving the exterior material properties of the space station structure. The electron discharge emission is facilitated by converting Xenon Gas to Plasma using thermionic electron emission and expelling the Xenon Plasma from the ORU [Orbital Replaceable Unit]. Each PCU holds enough Xenon to operate for two years minimum. The PCU contains the PCU Electronics Unit and Gas Feed System as major subassemblies.

Balanced-pressure proportioners and around-the-pump proportioners are both systems that are built into the apparatus fire pump.... The around-the-pump proportioning system consists of a pickup line on the discharge side of the pump back to the intake side of the pump. An in-line eductor is positioned on this pump bypass. These units are rated for a specific flow and should be used at this rate, although they do have some flexibility. For example, a unit designed to flow 500 gpm(2, 000 L/min) at a 6 percent concentration will flow 1, 000 gpm(4, 000 L/min) at a 3 percent rate.

Around-the-pump proportioner: This type of proportioner also operates on the venturi principle [as does the "in-line inductor"], except that it must be situated at the pump and connected to both suction and pressure sides. Its advantage is that pressure recovery of the venturi action is attained, and pump delivery pressures to the foam-making device or devices downstream require no compensation for pressure loss except for that in the layout hose length. ... A small portion of the pump discharge flows through a bypass line to the suction side of the pump. A venturi eductor in this line produces a negative pressure on the foam concentrate pickup line from the foam concentrate container. Foam concentrate is led to the eductor where it mixes with water and is delivered to the suction side of the pump.

Actuellement on fabrique surtout des aérothermes à soufflage horizontal; l'axe du jet d'air est situé à 3 ou 4 m de hauteur et sa portée peut atteindre 60 m avec des vitesses de soufflage de l'ordre de 15 m/s. L'utilisation des aérothermes avec de telles portées du jet d'air nécessite que ce jet ne rencontre aucun obstacle sur lequel il soit susceptible de se réfléchir, ce qui implique des locaux bien dégagés et hauts de plafond. Moyennant cette condition, on peut obtenir un chauffage régulier d'un local au moyen d'aérothermes en très petit nombre : les aérothermes à soufflage horizontal peuvent très bien avoir des puissances de plusieurs centaines de milliers de kilocalories. C'est un mode de chauffage convenant bien à des ateliers, garages, halls industriels suffisamment dégagés.

A curd discharge outlet with movable door is situated in the bottom wall of the tank, directly above a curd hopper fitted with a conveyor for moving curd to a collection area.
