Tin plate is now sold both on a weight per unit area basis and on a thickness basis. The old unit of area is the base box, equal to the area of 112 sheets, 14 by 20 inches, or 31 360 square inches(217. 78 square feet). The new unit of thickness is the millimetre and the corresponding area designation for pricing and weight or area calculations is the SITA(System International Tin Plate Area) which equals 100 square metres or 4. 9426 base boxes.... The use of symbols to designate gage was displaced by the use of base weights(or basis weights) expressed in pounds per base box that also indicated the approximate thickness of the tin-mill product... With the recent introduction of the metric system(SI) in production, gage is the basic unit for specification and area becomes only a derived value for commercial usage.

Tinplate sheets used to manufacture cans and boxes were originally packed into wooden boxes in order to protect the polished tin surface. Sheets cut to 35 cm X 50 cm (14 X 20 in) and of 0.3 mm thickness weighed approx. 454 g (1 lb) and 112 were packed into a box, known as the "basis box". Variation in thickness of sheet cut to the same size would vary the weight, and larger sizes were made, although these were then called "tinned sheets". Modern production techniques favour reeling into rools for shipment, and protection with interleaving of paper or plastic where necessary.

Evaporimeter(atmometer) An evaporimeter consists of a flat, porous ceramic disk(Bellani plate) in which water is drawn up by capillary action as water is evaporated from the disk. It is used to directly estimate crop evapotranspiration rate. Several commercial models can be easily installed near the edge of a field or on a roadway in a field.(The unit must be located far enough into the field to avoid field boundary effects.) One commercial model provides a green canvas-like material covering the ceramic disc to simulate crop leaf color. Reasonably good correlation has been found between field measurements and that calculated from Penman-type equations. Small difference in evaporation rates may be found between individual meters. Maintaining water levels and removal for freeze protection are necessary.

Hexapod is a support facility to be mounted on an EXPA of the ISS. The facility will be used for the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment III(SAGE III). The facility has a bottom plate and a top plate. The two plates are connected by 6 linear actuators. Hexapod receives the pointing data from SAGE III and the actual base position from the ISS-EXPA. From this data the HEXAPOD control algorithm calculates the next position for each leg. Each linear actuator is driven by a double winding Brushless DC Motor, while the position is monitored by an incremental encoder. To sustain the launch load a launch support structure has been designed, which is released by dedicated electromechanical devices. DIDO Experiment Container is essentially a box with a side length of 150 mm. Design philosophy of DIDO experiment foreseen an "all inside" approach, so(at this moment) the experiment container is a mere box with no windows or openings, or relevant external features. DIDO EC is intended as a structural part for the inside experiment; only mechanical, electrical and data interfaces are required to connect DIDO EC with GLAD facility. The box is assembled as one piece but the topside is removable to have access to DIDO experiment. In this way the topside component works as a cover plate. The EC is made by(TBD) material and to meet safety requirements EC' s corners are slightly rounded, materials must not be flammable and machined with non-toxic surface treatment. Cover plate is connected with the box through screws. The bottom side, instead, compose the "first plate" of DIDO experiment, housing tanks and pumping system. Another plate placed about half height provides a "second plate" for DIDO cell and relative optics, laser unit and CCD camera.

The filter fabric is generally made of synthetic fibres. The correct choice of fabric has a great influence on the performance of a pressure filtering unit. In some cases, the filter fabric is not fitted directly to the plate but is applied on a coarser felt-like sub-fabric, to improve the distribution of pressure over the whole filtering surface.
