The Commission on Sustainable Development(CSD) was created in December 1992 to ensure effective follow-up of UNCED; to monitor and report on implementation of the Earth Summit agreements at the local, national, regional and international levels. The CSD is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC) with 53 members. La Commission du Développement Durable (CDD) a été créée en décembre 1992 pour assurer un suivi efficace de la Conférence de Nations Unies sur l'environnement et le développement (UNCED), contrôler et faire le suivi de la mise en œuvre des accords du Sommet de la Terre tant au niveau local, national, régional qu'international. La CDD est une commission technique du Conseil Économique et Social (ECOSOC) qui comprend 54 membres. Il a été reconnu qu'un examen quinquennal des avancées concernant le Sommet de la Terre aurait lieu en 1997 lors de l'Assemblée Générale des Nations Unies réunie session extraordinaire. En juin 1997, l'Assemblée Général des Nations Unies a adopté un programme de mise en œuvre de l'Agenda 21 dont le suivi sera effectué par la CDD ainsi que le plan de travail de la Commission pour 1998 - 2002. ELADA 21 is a software program that was developed as an inexpensive approach for accessing the information in Agenda 21, the action plan developed by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development at its 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
