Quantitative three-dimensional echocardiography has been developed at Columbia University in New York and validated both at Columbia and at the Danbury Hospital laboratory. Measurements made using three-dimensional echocardiography have been validated against magnetic resonance imaging, cineventriculography, and gross anatomical specimens. These validation studies have demonstrated that three-dimensional echocardiography is superior to two-dimensional echocardiography for quantitative measurements. The Canadian Aeronautical Charting(CANAC) Database is the primary data source upon which Aeronautical and Technical Services(ATS) charts and publications are based. Data is collected in concert with NAV CANADA, Transport Canada, and the Department of National Defence and includes information concerning radio navigation aids and communication stations, obstructions, airways, as well as public and private aerodromes. This workshop focuses on the GPS positioning system as a tool for the collection of spatially referenced data, similar to those used by a GIS. The basic concepts of a GPS will be presented. As well, steps and methods required to integrate GPS data with a GIS will be outlined. With the assistance of the GPS/GIS "GIS Mobile" of NovAtel Inc., the presentation will include the following : the definition of data dictionaries : the operation of GPS receivers; the calculation of differential corrections; the calculation of positions; the use of precise clock and precise orbits; the validation of data; cartographic projections; and, the integration of these data with a GIS.
