The aorta is the first and largest artery in the body. It is responsible for transporting nutrient-rich blood to the systemic circulation following ejection from the left ventricle of the heart. The aorta extends from the aortic valve of the left ventricle to the proximal iliac bifurcation at the L4 [fourth lumbar vertebra] vertebral level. The vessel can be divided into various segments depending on course and location.

The rudder actuator is a tandem actuator, having two internal piston areas for each hydraulic source(A & B). The actuator is capable of positioning the rudder panel with either one or both main hydraulic sources available, though with one source inoperative a reduced rudder panel deflection would result due to blowdown at higher airspeeds. Flow of hydraulic fluid to the rudder actuator is controlled by the dual servo-valve. This is a complex dual concentric cylinder with an outer and inner slide. During normal rudder pedal inputs sufficient rudder panel deflection is catered for by the primary(inner) valve alone. However, should a larger panel deflection be required or a higher rate rudder input be commanded, the secondary(outer) sleeve moves in addition to port extra fluid to the actuator. Movement of the outer sleeve is typically no more than 1 mm. Position of both sleeves of the servo valve is controlled by a complex mechanism of bell cranks, input rod and summing lever, the geometry of which is such as to provide movement of the sleeves in relation to the body of the valve.

A vacuum-splint provides a quick form-fitting limb and/or spine immobilization during rescue and transportation to medical facilities.... When the valve is open, internal pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure allowing the device to be wrapped around the body part to be immobilized. Next, a hand vacuum pump is attached to the valve and a vacuum is created. This brings the walls of the device down on polystyrene beads internally which compress and form fit to whatever it is initially wrapped around. At the same time it becomes extremely rigid and can no longer be manipulated until the valve is open again allowing internal pressure to return allowing removal of the device.

When a carload of grain is to be shipped, the batching mechanism on the office control panel is set at the number of hoppers needed to load the car. The system is then set to cycle. First, the butterfly in the annex bin opens and grain is conveyed by the intermediate conveyor to the garner. Grain from the garner flows into the hopper scale filling it to its initial setting; then the garner gate closes. At the same time, the gate of the hopper scale opens, releasing the weighed grain on to the conveyor; this conveyor takes the grain to the shipping leg where it is elevated and loaded into the car. The cycle repeats itself until the car is filled.

Air release chambers are installed ahead of any metering equipment to ensure accurate measurement of fuel flow. They may be installed in either the pumphouse or on the dispensing platform. They operate on the reduced flow velocity principle which separates and eliminates air from the fuel. As the fuel enters the air release chamber(the diameter of which is much greater than the diameter of the inlet to the air release body), the velocity of the flow is greatly reduced allowing an interval of time for the air to separate from the fuel. The air, being lighter than the liquid, rises to the top of the chamber, where it remains until a sufficient quantity has accumulated to lower the liquid level, causing the float to drop, which in turn opens the vent valve and allows the accumulated air to escape. In most cases the line from the air vent is returned to the storage or scavenger tank to prevent spraying fuel into the surrounding area in case of a malfunction of the air release chamber.
