Cette anémogirouette a été conçue par George Kingston, le premier directeur du service météorologique canadien. L'un des premiers instruments de télélecture, il facilitait la détermination de la direction du vent. Le vent orientait les pales de l'anémogirouette dans la même direction qu'il soufflait. The measurement of wind speeds is usually done using a cup anemometer. The cup anemometer has a vertical axis and three cups which capture the wind. The number of revolutions per minute is registered electronically. Normally, the anemometer is fitted with a wind vane to detect the wind direction. The Dines Pressure Tube Anemometer is universally recognised as the most reliable and accurate instrument of its kind and has been adopted as standard by the British Meteorological Office and by meteorological stations world-wide. Dines Pressure Tube Anemometer consists essentially of a Head Assembly, a Velocity Recorder and a Direction Recorder, the IM100 records wind speed and wind direction simultaneously on a single chart. Another increasingly popular type of anemometer is the propeller anemometer. This anemometer is simply a very small two- or three-blade propeller, calibrated so that the revolutions per minute (rpm) corresponds to specific wind speeds. This anemometer is known as a "lift" device because it relies upon the rational lift caused by the wind on the propellers to measure the wind speed. By using two propellers held fixed at a perpendicular angle to each other, one can simultaneously measure the wind speed and direction using vector analysis. By including a third propeller positioned vertically relative to the other two, vertical wind movements also can be measured. It should be noted that the effect of variations in air density (due to temperature and/or pressure conditions) are accounted for differently in lift devices (for example, propeller anemometers) and drag devices (for example, cup anemometers).  4, fiche 6, Anglais, - propeller%20anemometer

The... propellor anemometer consists of a circular array of blades, usually not less than three, mounted at one end of a horizontal shaft; the blades are free to rotate in response to wind forces acting on them. A wind vane is attached to the opposite end of the shaft. Vane anemometer. This portable instrument is used to measure low wind speeds and airspeeds in large ducts. It consists of a number of vanes radiating from a common shaft and set to rotate when facing the wind; a guard ring surrounds the vanes. The vanes operate a counter to indicate the number of rotations, which when timed with a stop-watch serve to determine the speed.
