Hierarchical classification. Classifiers utilizing hierarchical, or sequential, architectures generally perform well for remote sensing applications. Typically, when discriminating land cover types, there is a benefit to separating the data into general groupings rather than specific classes, as well as to removing those classes which are easily separable from the rest. This multiscale framework in terms of class separability reduces the complexity of the classifier, both in terms of training and decision making. This is because the classifier does not need to distinguish between all classes, just one class(or a few) from the rest. By employing a hierarchical classifier, different inputs can be used at each level of the overall classification process depending on the classes to be discriminated. This then allows for a possible reduction in the number of inputs, or for the use of class specific data such as topography, at a given level. The described benefits of a hierarchical architecture generally lead to an increase in classification accuracy.... A hierarchical version of the above MRF-based classifier was developed to account for the class dependent variation in backscatter associated with changes in incidence angle. A methodology for "correcting" SAR data according to class-specific models is described and is then presented as the first level in the architecture of the hierarchical classifier.

carbonisat (anglais : «char») : Produit de carbonisation de composé organique naturel ou synthétique qui, au cours de sa carbonisation, n'est pas passé par un état fluide. L'absence de phase liquide fait que le carbonisat conserve fréquemment la forme du précurseur, bien que de taille plus petite.

La gazéification partielle à haute température qui suit la carbonisation, appelée «activation physique» : un matériau avec un haut contenu en carbone est soumis à une pyrolyse et fournit un résidu solide appelé carbonisat. Sa structure poreuse est rudimentaire, c'est pourquoi on applique un processus d'activation. De cette façon le carbonisat devient un «charbon activé».

On présente dans cet article un travail expérimental et de modélisation réalisé pour déterminer la variation de la température d'allumage du lit dans un combusteur à lit fluidisée en fonction du diamètre de particules du produit de carbonisation et de la vitesse de fluidisation. On a utilisé un charbon de lignite, dont la réactivité a été représentée à l'aide des données de Field (1967) et de Turnbill et Davidson (1984).

A modeling process by which variation in a time series are assumed to be explained wholly by the historical trends of the data itself. In essence, the ARIMA modeling process consists of the autoregressive and moving average processes of the Auto-Regressive Moving Average(ARMA) Model process on data that have been Differenced to render them Stationary. The process uses variations of differencing and transformations to describe historical patterns in the data. Like the simpler ARMA model, forecasts made by an ARIMA modeling process consist of only a mathematical process of projecting inherent characteristics of trend, cycles, and seasonality into the future and incorporate no economic relatinships. Consequently, such models are not appropriate for impact analysis or for incorporating random "shocks", but may prove an effective estimation process when the trends in the historical data are relatively stable and well-behaved.

The energy for complete fracture in double edge-notched tension test specimens has been measured for a wide range of polymer films. Results indicated that the variation of the total specific work of fracture, wT, with ligament length, L, can be described by two straight lines, both of the form wT=we+β wpl, thus giving upper and lower intercept values at zero ligament length(i. e. we) for each film. The first term, we, is the energy absorbed per unit area of fracture, whereas the second term, wp, is the energy absorbed per unit volume of plastic deformation remote from the fracture surface. The lower we value was obtained from the extrapolation of the data within the mixed mode region(plane-stress/plane-strain) where the maximum net-section stress exceeded 1. 15 times that of the tensile yield stress, σy, of the material, and the upper value was ascertained by extrapolating the data within the plane stress region where the net-section stress was 1. 15 σy. It appears that the transition from plane stress to plane strain mode of fracture in thin films occurs at a ligament length much greater than 5B, where B is the specimen thickness.
