A welding technique in which the arc force or gun is directed opposite to the progress of welding.

The term backhand technique is sometimes referred to as the "pull gun technique" in GMAW (gas metal arc welding) and in FCAW (flux-cored arc welding).

In this method, the torch precedes the welding rod,... the torch is held at approximately a 45 degree angle from the vertical away from the direction of welding, with the flame directed at the molten puddle. The welding rod is between the flame and the molten puddle. This position requires less transverse motion than is used in forehand welding.

Steel boilers are fabricated into one assembly of a given size and rating, usually by welding. The heat exchange surface past the firebox usually is an assembly of vertical, horizontal, or slanted tubes. The tubes may be firetube(flue gas inside, heated fluid outside) or watertube(fluid inside).

The firing tubes are copper clad on the water side. The 2 in. OD by number 13 gauge tubes are formed by telescoping a .030 in. hard phosphorized copper tube over a .065 in. seamless steel tube and drawing over a mandrel and through a die for a tight bond. Long tube life is positively assured under the most aggressive conditions.

Steel boilers are fabricated into one assembly of a given size and rating, usually by welding. The heat exchange surface past the firebox usually is an assembly of vertical, horizontal, or slanted tubes. The tubes may be firetube(flue gas inside, heated fluid outside) or watertube(fluid inside). The tubes may be in one or more passes. As with cast-iron boilers, dry base, wet leg, or wet base design may be used. The majority of small steel heating boilers are of dry base, vertical firetube design. Larger boilers usually have horizontal or slanted tubes; both firetube and watertube designs are used. A popular design for medium and large steel boilers, is the Scotch, or Scotch Marine, which is characterized by having a central fluid-backed cylindrical firebox, surrounded by firetubes in one or more passes, all within the outer shell.... Steel boiler sizes range from approximately 14. 7 kW(150 mBh) to the largest boilers made.
