As a general rule of Canadian evidence law, the previous out-of-court statements of a witness or victim are not to be the subject of testimony in court. The final phase of victimization is "Disclosure". This is usually the most traumatic phase for the victim because it reinforces the behaviours and forces the victim to re-live the experiences; thus causing revictimization. Disclosure is typically either "purposeful" or "accidental", but is usually the latter. According to this theory, parents of children with disabilities abuse their kids because they can’t cope with the day to day demands and stresses of caring for them.
